It's not golf, but it can be fun. There's a great one on the north shore of Kauai between Kilauea and Princeville:

Had a a few words to say about it in this L.A. Times piece, plus thoughts on "real" value golf on the island:

Nice article Ken! I remember playing these locals courses back in the day when we first started visiting Kauai

Thanks, man. There's nothing like a Prince/Kukuiolono double -- or at least until Prince went adios. But what a contrast. Really shows the diversity of the game.

I remember the Kukui course as being really barren when I played it + lots of locals wandering about the course as well

Oh, it is. There's only irrigation to the greens, and that's inching around toward the rain shadow side of the island. And the grill room is a place you almost are guaranteed to get in a fight. Wife-beaters are approved attire. Nine bucks, Pacific views from on high. What's not to love?!? I'm starting to think I might have to go kick the tires again in May.

Oh, and it's also a public park/garden, so you do kinda have to weave around some of the locals.

Have not golfed in many years, but did a lot in my younger days, but still appreciated the article Ken. Also followed the link to Kiahuna's site and perused the pics. Looks absolutely gorgeous as you said.

    Thanks again for the article.

PS. The flyover video on their site just loaded and the course from above does look a bit rough and dry, LOL their low level pics look way better :)

Hey, Bone, thanks. The takeaway from Kauai golf really is that despite having the fewest offerings of the Big 4 islands, it could be the most diversity in terms of cost and value. County-owned Wailua is an out-right steal -- and it has a few beach moments -- and Puakea does the best job of not shredding your wallet but still brining some of those needed OMG Hawaiian golf moments. You just have to get past the visual of the "Costco holes." Then you have several top-shelfers, even with Prince going private (not that I was one of those who swallowed that Kool-Aid unthinkingly).
