Funny thing happen at the Trop. I left a tip on the night stand $20 and it was not picked up. I came back and the cleaning lady was at the next room I took it too her and she said she was not sure that it was left as a tip and was afraid to take it. She thanked me and I got extra Voss water with my turndown service. When I say extra i mean the Fridge was full and 4 on the counter and two on each nightstand.

Guess people do not tip at the Trop or I put in on the wrong place.

    CET gives you Tip Envelopes.

Wynn had no issue it was a tip.

They want it on the pillow or bed to make sure it is a tip.

I usually leave it with something to weight it down, like a cup or a tv remote just so that they see it.

I leave $20 per day. Since we usually have the pull out bed made and extra pillows for the kids. This way if we need extra items, there are no problems in getting them. And I believe your room is also cleaned very well. I also leave a thank you note on the bed with the money. I believe a kind gesture goes a long way. Usually at the Palazzo we get chocolate during the turn down and on occasion housekeeping has left enough to give out for halloween. If we call housekeeping for items, such as a humidifier, I would also tip this person.

$5 a day with a note - our trips are 14 days so not sure it would be fair to save this all up until the end of the trip

When we arrive we request extra decaf coffee and extra pillows. Whomever delivers it gets a $3 tip. That's it. The DND sign stays on for the entire time during our normal 4 night stay. If we need extra Kleenex or soap, I get it from housekeeping in the hall and tip her. Sometimes they won't take the tip, most times they do.

Man, I hate the tip-to-offset-shitty-wages war cry.

Tip because you want to, tip because someone provided a service and did it well, tip if you somehow think the Muses will now shine down on you the next time you buy a lottery ticket, whatever, but let's not make it out like some needed socio-economic engineering experiment.

There is one simple reason why we tip housekeeping: They are in our space, keeping it stocked, tidy, comfortable, and we always seem to get a bit of lagniappe as a result.

Short story for those that tip at the end of stay.

I had a friend who worked at a nearby Air Force Base as a housekeeper in the VAQ (Visiting Airman's Quarters). Military guys would stay 1-2 weeks at a time while in the area for training. Some of these guys would have training multiple times a year and they would become familiar with the staff. The guys would often leave tips or gifts at the end of their stay. The lead/boss over the housekeeping staff would go through all the rooms on check-out day and claim tips, gifts, and other abandoned items for herself.

More then once my friend was asked, "How'd you like the _____?" It may have been wine, candy, etc. Not wanting to 'out' the boss, she would just say she liked it and thanks.

Not sure if this happens elsewhere but it stuck in my mind, so I tip daily.
