I think it doesn't mean that they won't gamble, it means whether they self-reported that their primary purpose in Las Vegas was to gamble. Most Las Vegas visitors these days are leisure travelers - maybe they drop a few hundred at the slots or tables, but they are there more for vacation than for gambling. I'd say the percentage of Vegas visitors that gamble at least $1 has got to be 80%+.

I'd guess it's virtually 100%... even the staunch non-gambler will usually drop a dollar into a slot at some point during a vegas trip.

I think you're right about the "self-reported" aspect. There are far too many folks who would never admit that 'gambling' is a driving factor behind any action or trip that they take... even if it is.
It's not a question of whether they have a justification to be there (convention, etc.)... they are motivated to enter the casino by a desire to gamble.

Understood on the self reporting and data collecting aspect. It's simply inaccurate.

I remember being treated so much better at the tables. I started going to Vegas in the mid 1990s. Even then, as a 25-year old kid, playing blackjack for $10-$50/hand, I got treated better than I do today playing $100-$500. Buffet or coffee shop comps just by asking the floor super. He'd even call you by your first name, since he actually bothered to remember when he looked at your player's card. The cocktail waitress came by every 15-20 minutes and somehow she knew your first name too, and already had your next round on her tray ready to go. And just as important, that $10 game had good rules - 3:2 BJ payouts, DAS, S17, 6 decks where they dealt out 5 before shuffling.

I can only imagine how much better you OGs on this board got treated back in the 1980s.
