    Agree with you 100%

I've been there for many pleasure trips, I've been there for several conventions. I've also been to other venues for conventions. Nobody has done it as good (SF, San Diego, Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville, Orlando). Just the whole moving massive amounts of people. Most of the people who go get sick of Vegas after about 3 days though and want to go home. However, after 10-20 miles of walking around per day, sitting in chairs like a sardine and what not you really aren't up for the other half of Vegas which is the nightlife, casino, and really interesting food options galore.

Very few people who go to conventions that I know like to gamble while there on convention even those who like to gamble when for pleasure. I've been to many tech conferences huge, medium and small. I'll usually do a few hours a night after eating dinner but in bed by 10pm local time. Thats when it starts to liven up and I have two options, stay up late and barely function when I want to learn as much as I can about what I'm interested in or sleep a good 7-8 hours.

Vegas conventions really wear you down more than any other place but I still like them as far as conventions go.

I too go to tech conferences huge, medium and small... I spend a few hours at the conventions then go back downtown and gamble, drink and generally act like a fool till 3 - 4am, get up a few hours later and do it again. I can can find about what I'm interested in from vendors, co-workers, or google searches?

Do hookers kick back to hosts or concierges during convention?

I know this is common practice for whales and hard core celebrities and/or mega rich customers.

LVCVA says 14% of Vegas visitors are there for conferences/conventions/trade shows/expositions.

Of course vacationers (not gamblers) are always going to exceed convention/business visitors or gamblers for that matter. I was saying that people that go to Las Vegas primarily to gamble are out numbered by those that go to Vegas for conventions/business, and that this is reflected in the treatment of gamblers. According to the LVCVA's

(page 8), just 10% of visitors came primarily to gamble. That is why we see worsening game conditions and lower incentives/discounts as gamblers. Further, room rates are always higher during conventions - the 14% there for conventions generate higher revenue per visitor than other types of visitors.

I just was told I'll be going out in March for ConExpo. I bet my Comp room rate will be through the roof.

I only just heard of ConExpo last night. My son says he and his work group (3 others) will be going down and can I get him rooms (as I usually do). Of course I can..Damn thou. I only do one work trip a year (the other 8 or 9 times are mine) so I have TWO trips in March..Shit you do. One for ConExpo to host the kids and the other at the end of March for IWCE. I'm down Vegas tomorrow, so will try to book something for them.

In reference to those LVCVA statistics that 7% - 15% of Vegas visitors are there primarily to gamble is BULLSHIT. Likewise with the 1% - 4% of first time visitors having a primary purpose of gambling. 40%+ of visitors are primarily there to gamble. The convention numbers are large, but with 180k hotel rooms, and full casino floors, people are gambling. 1 in 10 visitors are primarily there to gamble? Get real.
