You're right, it is also on 12 monkeys. (TV show version)

    Found this on website:
Unfortunately, Jones doesn’t get the joke, nor does Cole later when Jennifer quotes Ghostbusters: “Dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria!” Poor Jennifer - no one appreciates her geek humor.

Wish I could find a you tube clip. Jennifer Goines is quite the character! Haha

It definitely destroyed competition on the strip. I know some of it is just inflation, but increases in price for everything coincided with the consolidation of almost all mid to south Strip properties into MGM and CET.

Harrah's (CET) started their destruction of quality a while back... they ruined Barbary Coast (a true crime) & then O'Shea's...

They've shifted their focus to the most profitable part of their business - conventions. Aria feels like a boardroom for a reason - casinos have come to realize just how much money they can make from conventions, and they wanted to be a prime destination for them. Believe it or not most of the major casinos have to turn down convention business. Executives want a tax deductible trip to Vegas, and their employees want a free trip to Vegas on their employer's dime, so everyone wants to have their conventions there. Demand exceeds the supply of available convention space, even though they keep adding it....even Treasure Island is currently adding some.

That's why we see 6:5 blackjack and triple 0 roulette everywhere at the hotel that happens to be attached to one of the largest convention centers on earth (Venetian/Palazzo). No experienced gambler is going to play these games; Sheldon knows that and doesn't care because he has conventioneers that will play them and pay $1k/nt for a regular room during shows like CES.

Throw in some business from the club crowd, and the end result is that they just don't care about attracting the gambling crowd nearly as much. That is reflected in terms of treatment, willingness to comp things, etc. Of course if you're playing 4/5 figures/hand you'll mostly still get what you want, but even at that level and above they've been dialing down discounts etc.

Vegas for the most part doesn't belong to gamblers anymore - it belongs to the conventioneers.

I would say the strip itself.

Most of the themes were fun, and some of the casinos used to be nicer, but to me the big impact is really felt on a walk outside. I can still find fun things to do and good places to play, and staying in a themed resort would not make me way happier.

But not only to the more recent properties make the skyline more boring, but its all the filler in between. Linq and no doubt Park as well. Grand Bazaar. And the area in front of all these places. Generic franchise restaurants and stores and pharmacies.

To me, the only appeal left to staying on the strip itself is the shows (which seem in decline) and the restaurant variety.

Kinda ironic that the the heyday of the "Family Era" is now being held as a standard.

I'm not being critical. I liked those days, too. It's just funny given how often over the years threads have gone off the rails because of the kids thing.

When I was in Vegas back in June, we were walking from Mandalay Bay to the VP on the Mlife side. We were looking at Paris and we were talking about how that was the hotel I stayed in on myfirst trip. While I was never a big fan, I always loved how it looked on the outside. It had the big driveway with the fountains; it looked attractive. CET took away all the open space and has built out close to the street. To me, what they did to the exterior was travesty. It is representative of their approach to making everything ugly.
