So the big question..... Who has the best gin (or vodka) soaking, walnut sized, blue cheese stuffed olives on the strip?

Normally that's out of my play range, but I may have to splurge. Any chance of $100-$200 blackjack tables midweek?

usually $300 for DD, but possibly $100 for shoe.

but if the whole place is empty like it often is midweek during the day and you ask the pit boss, they will usually let you play for $100.

I'm more of a Rye Manhattan guy, but I enjoy a white blabbermouth once in awhile.

I always start out by chilling the glass in the freezer for about 10 minutes. I'm indifferent when it comes to olives, I can take them or leave them, but the big ones occupy valuable real estate in the glass and displace booze, and booze trumps brine all the time.

As for vermouth, just a couple drops, a friend uses a little pocket atomizer to spray a wee bit into the shaker. As for the base booze, if it's gin, it should be Plymouth Gin, a British import with subtle botanicals. If it's Vodka, I like Russian Standard. I picked up a bottle of New Amsterdam No. 485 Gin awhile ago, it leans more toward a citrus flavor and is a "value" brand.

I will take a mixing glass, fill it with ice and about 4 oz of spirits, vermouth, stir, strain. Not a fan of shaking because it takes a minute for the bubbles to dissipate in the glass and delays my enjoyment.

In Vegas, I had an excellent Martini at the bar in the Steakhouse at Circus Circus, she filled a 14 oz mixing glass with ice, then poured Gin to within a finger of the top, added some vermouth and stirred. It was Happy Hour and drinks were half price.

And please, just because a drink is served in a Martini glass does not make it a martini. Hershey's chocolate syrup, soda, juices, cream, these are all adjuncts and good for making cocktails, but not Martini's. But we tell ourselves little lies all the time, so whatever floats your boat.

We all have teenage gin stories that end badly.

For me it's Bombay Sapphire. And martini's aren't made with Vodka. Those are Kangaroos.
