Just read another article talking about CET refreshing their rooms. The execs at CET must think the rooms at Flamingo are great as they have chosen to upgrade rooms at Caesars (Julius and Augustus Tower), Planet Hollywood, Paris, and Harrahs.

They rotate. Flamingo redid their rooms a few years back. They did a shit job. The Caesars rooms were really bad. I wonder what they will do to Harrahs. That place ain't any better then Flamingo.

My host told me at Harrahs they are redoing every room on the property. They redid the casino floor in the past year so at least that part is better than flamingo.

I hesitate to respond to the carpet comment as you might just be making an exaggerated point, but it was changed last year.

I was at the Wynn buffet two years ago and it smelled like vomit - someone had projectile vomitted all over the place. Doesn't make the Wynn a dump, just means that likely someone drank too much and puked - unfortunately it happens. Probably at every casino. More than once.

I fully appreciate that there are some that don't like the Flamingo and the other hotel/casinos that target the smaller players like me, but if Vegas got rid of all of the inexpensive places, there would be a lot of current Vegas visitors that wouldn't ever go - probably not a good thing for the city overall.

Im a low roller who on a slow weekend can maybe get Caesars Palace comped. I've stayed at Flamingo maybe more than anywhere else. As I've said before I used to really like the Go Rooms, but last time I stayed in one (May 2015), they were starting to show their age. I've seen the FAB rooms as my friends have stayed in them and that is the worst reno I've ever seen!

Yeah the casino is a little run down in some areas and I think the VP bars are the worst for hookers and ugly ones at that. It holds its niche, but looking for a friend recently to book you could get Ballys jubilee tower or linq for the same price. Those rooms beat Flamingo by a long shot. Do I think that Flamingo is a dump? That may be a poor choice of words. That being said it is in the bottom portion of strip properties IMO. The one saving grace would be the pool. Although given the long lines at check in, clearly it has its following. All that being said, just because some people don't like the Flamingo, stop taking it personal! Each property has its lover and haters. It doesn't matter if you're talking about Wynn or Circus Circus, each one is going to have people on each side. So people need stop whining every time someone dislikes a hotel they like. The moderation on this bullshit on VMB drove me crazy. That's they great thing about Vegas, there's something for everyone! If you want to eat McDonalds dollar menu and chase around match plays have at it. No one cares, I mean if you post a thread about walking to the airport here you're probably gonna get called on it though...just saying. I've spent on a meal, what some spend the entire trip on food and people who we've gone with have not come to dinner because they've rather eat in the food court, I've done the same. To each their own is what should be remembered.

Something that most of us on this board don't get is that most people staying at the flamingo are paying for it. They aren't comped. Vegas can be a very expensive town so staying somewhere that is a bit cheaper goes a long way especially for those on a budget.

I've never stayed at Flamingo so I can't speak to the rooms. That being said, I agree that it is a lower end property on the strip. But lower end properties have their place. I've stayed at Bally's countless times because they comp me pretty much anytime and I love the bartenders. Some people consider it a dump and that's fine, but my rooms have always been clean and comfortable, with one exception which was quickly addressed. I've stayed at Harrah's and would again although it's far from my first choice. I've also stayed at MGM, Bellagio, Mirage and Cosmo and would again if the offers were right. Basically I'm a whore for a free room I suppose. I'm fortunate that I could afford to stay at any property on the strip if I wanted to, but I choose to stay mid-tier and spend more on gambling. Not everyone has the budget - be it gambling and getting comped or just paying for the room outright - for Aria or Wynn so, in my opinion, it's good that places like Flamingo, Harrah's, Monte Carlo etc exist. The strip should not be the sole domain of any one type of patron.

Lover, hater, dump, show pony -- our definitions are all unique and at times it gets emotional; people are vested in their various consumer decisions.

For us, we're average folks. We gamble a bit but spread it around so about the best for which we can hope is something other than rack, or a down-time comp. We are sensitive to budget. But we like higher-end accomms -- that doesn't mean we choose a Wynn every time, and heaven knows I've/we've put in more than a few nights at a Silverton or SouthPoint or Suncoast (which we don't consider remotely to be "dumps.") However if we're looking at saving 30 at an Excalibur or tossing another 50 or 60 each day for a Vdara, we'll stay at that mid-tier option or go with the move up. That's just how we vacation -- unless we're somewhere in Rusticville. But this is a city, a big one. And that is one of the beauties of Vegas, everyone benefits from the gambling subsidy, everyone, when it comes to what kind of room you can get versus other top vacation destinations.

Is Hooters a dump or a palace? That really depends on life's experience; John Q from Bangladesh won't see it the same as a middle-class American, I'd guess.
