Flamingo is a dump. CET doesn't have the cash to redo the property, and who knows it might make a decent EBITDA for them. The check in line always seems to be long, so they must be filling the rooms. A few reasons it won't get totally redone anytime soon..

It has one of the top two pools (with Caesars being the other) in the CET family

Maragritaville is (or at least was a few years ago) one of the highest revenue generating restaurants in the country.

Those two points make it somewhat viable in the CET family. The old Imperial Palace had nothing going for it. The dining options at several CET properties is pretty pathetic. Especially Flamingo and Harrahs.

I'll take the opposite side of this discussion and tell you I like the Flamingo. Great location, great pool and inexpensive rooms for those of us that can only make it to Vegas once or twice a year.

When I go with the guys we really don't care about room quality, just that it gets cleaned every day - and it does. I've heard the horror stories, but in my roughly 15 stays at the Flamingo I have not experienced a filthy room even once.

The casino is in decent condition and offers reasonable (from a strip perspective) limits and rules/VP pay tables for us micro-rollers. They could have better restaurant offerings, but I don't mind going elsewhere to eat (it's close enough to Ellis Island!).

Tearing down the Flamingo would mean the loss of an option for people like me, and as another poster mentioned, there must be a lot of us as the check in line can be looooong.

And it's not all old people staying there - the Dinah Vegas event will be there again when I'm there end of April (look that one up and tell me it's old, frugal types) and here is further evidence from a random Thursday...

I like having a few low rent joints available for when you want a quick guys trip or just an easy COMP room. You can always walk across the street or down the street for high rent or new.

I would like to see a total rebuild would then position the property as a competitor to Cosmo and make it their premier destination for younger mid to high rollers.

This is such a good idea. Movies and television go back through and do almost nothing but remakes nowadays. How sweet would it be to "remake" the Flamingo and make it awesome? That would be really cool. A type of casino that's never been done. Great idea.

Was in the Flamingo's casino last year ... it was abominable. All 6:5 BJ. Crowded as hell. Smokey as hell. Left and played at MB, where I got killed. Ha.

The walk from the valet/self park is a delapadated mess of retail and cheap linoleum.

The Fab rooms have to be the worst recently remodeled rooms on the strip. In a few years they will be the worst.

This place is typical of CET's dilemma. They have loyal customers that want an easy room comp or a cheaper room. Problem is, that model can't justify investment in a property or justify the value the location presents.

You get what you pay for is as true in Las Vegas as it is anywhere else in life. Seems to me that place is always full of the younger crowd who don't seem to mind the 6:5 or the smoke. While I'm not a fan of the rooms, if you're in a position to scoff at the rooms at Flamingo, I'd be willing to bet you're the type that stays elsewhere anyway. Flamingo is one of the few places left on the strip that has a distinct "feel" to it.

My first stay was at Flamingo in 1991. I HAD a fond memory of the place.

I revisited the casino in 2014...I HAVE a lasting impression of the place....it stinks!!!!!
