I just went through this the other day. My parents are going to Vegas in May and I gave them my CET Planet Hollywood "2 Nights Free" voucher. But then they didn't understand why a free room cost $32 a night.

The interesting thing is that commissions are paid off the room rate to 3rd party agents and booking sites excluding of course the resort fees and taxes. The resorts and associations will be lobbying hard to keep it as is so they don't have to re-structure their agreements. The cruise industry is worse than Vegas though. The advertised rate is typically equivalent to a closet for 1 person without food, water, or luggage. It's a joke but this marketing tactic has stood the test of time.

I get the angst and I don't like RF either, but I'm also pretty sure this is not a problem that requires a legislative solution.

Beyond the law there is ALWAYS the law of unintended consequences that tend to spiral out of control when Congress gets reactionary and Statists come in to save the traveler's day.

Resort fees stuff but "there ought to be a law" sucks more.

Of course, that's my opinion, I could be wrong. (To quote Dennis Miller)

What? Trump is the antithesis of who a freedom-minded voter would pick. Trade wars...walls on the border...boycotting Apple because they don't want to hand over our info to big brother. I'd imagine more Trump fans fall into the "there oughta be a law" crowd than not.

Fuck off I'm Canadian! On a more serious note as an outsider looking it is really appears to be a cluster fuck with all the antics regarding the Republican nomination. He would veto this bill for sure if it ever passed and if he was president, don't kid yourself.
