There is somewhat of a spend cessation impulse when pulling off a bunch of Bens rather than throwing a CC at it. By the same token, not using a CC means you're leaving a good bit of cash or miles or what not on the table. It's all about control. If you have it and zero out the balance every 30th day not using a CC is throwing $$ down the john.

From what I've read, Taking a marker and not settling up within a specific time-frame (depends on the amount borrowed) is a felony in Las Vegas. In Atlantic City, it's not considered a felony. Basically, a warrant will be issued for your arrest in Vegas if you are delinquent, whereas, in places like AC you will only be sued.

I was there last weekend for an event. I posted the picture not b/c of the always looming threat that they pursue you should you bounce a check or maker, but for terrible sentence structure in something so prominently placed.

Absolutely! We charge everything we can. Below $1, I'll pay cash, otherwise on the card. I looked at 2015 and we averaged $5,700 per month in charges spread over 5 cards.

One pays 6% back on groceries. AMEX
One pays 3% at restaurants and gas. Chase AARP
    Costco card
One with rotating 5% for different items each quarter. This quarter it's restaurants. Chase Freedom
And finally our SWA card which pays for everything else we charge. Chase also.

It drives my wife nuts. She has ended up putting little stickers on the front of each card so she can remember what to use it for.

There are fees on 3 of them. The Costco card fee pays for annual membership. We don't make money on this card because we don't spend enough there, but my wife likes Costco and some items they sell.

The 6% card is $75. We easily spend enough on groceries in a year to make money on this one.

SWA is I think $90. I honestly haven't done the math on this one to see how much a mile is worth. But, for me, it's like the people who like getting a tax refund. I like taking free flights twice a year.
Oh, and of course paid in full each month.

Of course this is true in this case. He's a Mexican national after all. I would leave it to Nate to say if a felony $500K debt in Vegas would affect his LOC ability elsewhere in the world.
    Too small of a debt?

I can't speak to the SW card specifically, but on some airline cards the perks alone pay for themselves, even before you get into the miles. The Citi AA card is either $90 or $95 a year, which includes a free checked bag on all flights. Given that my girlfriend and I always check at least one bag between us, at $25 a bag each way, two round trips a year more than covers the annual fee (and we fly way more than that). Miles, group 1 boarding, and a couple bucks back on in-flight purchases are all just gravy.
