I agree. a lot of really good, older wine doesn't need to be decanted either. I had a 1992 Colgin the other week and tasted it and it needed no decanting whatsoever. I never decant Burgundy unless it's really, really old and then you need to decant it for at least 30-45 minutes.

honestly, the wine most people drink won't change a thing good or bad if you decant/aerate the shit out of it.

it's not like aerating the wine is going to take a cheap ass bottle and suddenly make it taste like gold.

I have an aerator and the only piece I use from the box is the filter screen. It's easier to just let the bottle breathe a bit instead of trying to pour wine through an aerator and possibly making a mess. The only time we really decant wine is if it's a special occasion with other people around because the decanter looks nicer on a table.

Very true. I like my whites at cellar temperature (55-60 degrees) and my reds about 65-70.

I like drinking white wine a touch on the warmer side and love seeing them develop up to room temperature. If there are flaws in a white wine? It can't hide as it warms up.

Now, I admit, on some of our scalding summer days in Houston, where the humidity makes it feel like you're suffocating if you step outside, I don't mind an ice cold glass of Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc. That's my version of ice water for Houston summers.

I was putting some wine away yesterday and noted a good amount of Melville Pinots in the 5-7 year range, and given life cycles up here and Greg Brewer's craft, it is time for some of them to go down.

Ken, have you had both the Prodigal and the Foley TS back to back? If not you may want to do the Prodigal first.
    I'm just sayin'...

My palate is commensurate with my 60's legacy, so I claim little depth of evalaution.
That caveat said, the Prodigal was quite a bit lighter, almost to the point of being a bit washed out taste and nose both.
I'll let you know after I have the other one.
    No prob with the Foley.

Hmmm, one year. Same two clones save some 2A in the Foley. Different terroir, for sure.

That 2009 Prodigal is kinda our table wine. Never thought to put it up against something else. Thanks for the idea!

That Foley is pretty fucking awesome, ain't it?! We need to get a Huber into your hands ... or glass, actually.

We have a wine tasting dinner on Wednesday , not so sure about the wine options we are trying but intrigued by the food menu. Pictures to follow.
