I am in Vegas for one of the larger Trade Shows (NAB), so I must work from the room (to the office and hosting the odd meeting). So I need the space. I don't really need the view for this. I just need a desk which functions as an office, and a sofa to cry on when the bankroll is shot through for the day.

I like having a suite because I like to start my day with champagne in the room and end it ... with champagne in the room.

Very little. If I have a suite I'll sometimes retreat to the room maybe for an hour in the middle of the day to just sit on the couch, charge my phone and drink a few beers, but for the most part, I'm up at 10 am and out until 4-6 am, maybe going back to the room three times. Once to change into night attire, once for that hour to relax and once because I ran out of wallet cash and need to hit the safe! haha

Really depends on the trip. If I have my wife with me, we typically spend a little more time in the room, unwinding from the day before bed. So I'll typically ask for a suite from my host. I'll also ask for a suite if I'm going to be hitting the sportsbook hard, so that I have another option to go relax in my room and catch games. If it's just me I'm usually good with just the best standard (non-suite) room. I've climbed up the hierarchy of rooms in my Vegas career, so I've definitely had my time in low end crash pads. I think Smartone hit it on the head though. I'm not going to stay in a room on vacation that is significantly worse than my own house. I would imagine that most are in the same boat on that. When I used to stay in the low end joints I was in my early-mid 20s, and had a crappy apartment. A room at Harrahs was as nice or nicer than my apartment. Now, not so much...

Also I should add that having a nicer room certainly makes the trip a bit more relaxing for me as I take more time getting ready, and recharging the batteries on a trip. It also helps take the sting off a losing trip. Dropping a few grand on a trip to Vegas while staying in a great room at a nice resort, while enjoying some great meals stings a lot less than when you dump a bunch of money while crashing in a shitbox at Excalibur for 4 nights.

I only drink champagne on two occasions. When I'm in Vegas and when I'm not in Vegas.

As to how much time I spend in the room ... it all depends.

If I am out there for work, then it could be a lot less if I have a busy schedule or more if it is a light meeting schedule but more laptop time.

If I am out there for play, I generally sleep there for 2-4 hours and enough time to get ready in the morning and before evening activities.

As wigwam noted, the nicer the room the less motivated I am to get out and explore. I noticed everytime I book a Skyloft, I tend to spend more time in the room ... steam shower, room service, just hanging out and enjoying the comforts....

For one reason or another (hangover, food poisoning, broke a toe, sunburned, gambled til dawn, all of the above) I always end up spending one day mostly in the room. A suite is not necessary but a comfortable room is. Least comfortable was Monte Carlo and most was Bellagio (Aria a close second) but as long as I have a good bed, large TV, good hot shower and blackout curtains I'm good.

if its just me and a buddy ill stay on a single bed at the best western

for memorial day me and t he wife are going, as are about 8 other people. Theyre all staying at the various less expensive strip hotels, so why not book a wraparound suite with a view, order some ove rthe top room service and have everyone over for a quick party before we all go to dinner one night.

if im solo for a couple nights, I dont even need a room. Just some uhhhh.....help. PED type help. If I accidentally get sleepy I can always get a spa day pass and knock off for a couple of hours
