I think what defines degeneracy is excess in some way shape or form. If your excess is spas, golf or food or hookers and blow and you feel the need to go to Vegas to get that fix, you are a Vegas degenerate. Las Vegas was built on excess.

Yet so many of these casinos over the years go out of business or bk. Of course for many other reasons. That's another thread though.

I agree. Losers who play games that are rigged in the house's favor. Losers that pay $100 for a steak. Losers that pay $200 for a round of golf. Losers that pay $1000 for a bottle and a seat in a club. Losers that pay resort fees. You're a loser if you go to Las Vegas. Being a loser doesn't mean you can't have fun.

 

I didn't say you can't have fun. I also didn't say that enjoyment of good food or good wine or clubs or what not was indicative of being a loser. This wasn't a value judgment. If I want to spa and play golf as my Vegas thing, bueno. If someone wants to get hammered for three days straight, bueno. If someone wants to get out of the single-wide in South Dakota and fancy himself a playboy for a weekend, bueno. You're not a loser if you are enjoying what you are doing.

It merely is the fact that people losing money while gambling built Vegas. Doesn't mean by default they were losers for gambling.

 

I didn't mean loser in the moral or social sense, I mean loser in that if you go to Las Vegas you are overpaying for everything.

 

Travel is expensive and Vegas doesn't have a lock on overpriced "everything" -- and of course Vegas does have a lot of relative value pricing, mostly accomms, because of all those "losers." I mean, hiking PCH can be done for relatively little, but that ain't a beach in Kauai, either.

 

You got me there. Hotels are priced fairly compared to other vacation destinations.

 

I always find it shocking, how much cheaper it is to golf if you are a local. I play with locals and someone will usually buy my green fee. Last week it was $39 for the round.
