the "what are you drinking" thread made me think about all the great mixed drinks out there that you'd never know about unless you happened to try them.

post your favorite mixed drink recipe so we all can try it! no shame in stealing the recipe from your favorite libationer...

I have two.

Margarita
2 limes
2 oz silver tequila
1 oz Grand Marinier
1 T granulated sugar
simple syrup to taste

juice 2 limes and set aside the juice. throw the rinds in the shaker and add a tablespoon or so of sugar. muddle the lime rinds with the sugar to get out some extra juice and extract oils from the skin until the sugar has pretty much dissolved.

take out the rinds and then add 2 oz of Don Julio silver, the lime juice, 1 oz of Grand Marinier and ice and shake.

I'll taste and then sometimes add a splash of simple syrup depending on how the sweetness level is.

salt the rim of the glass, add fresh ice and pour over.

Smoke Over Water
1 oz Mezcal
1 oz Velvet Falernum
1 oz St Elizabeth's Allspice Dram
1/2 oz. lemon juice

shake with ice and serve neat.

 

oh I love a good Moscow Mule! I love it when they use the spicy ginger ale and throw a little barrel aged bitters in as well.

 

I'm a rum and vodka person for the most part. 80% of the time I'm drinking beer but on occasion I'll make (or order) rum punch or an Alabama slammer.

Caipirinha. It is very rare in the states you can get one done the right way. It is the national drink of Brazil and can easily put youon your ass.

 

I've heard of them Parallax...now I just need to get to Brazil

Peruvians make pisco sours and they're excellent.

 

In the "What're you drinking?" thread I posted my favorite Mai Tai recipe. This next one is a good, fruity summer drink I found in a bartenders' guide book (got the whole neighborhood shitfaced on this one):

In a shaker with ice add
1/2 oz light rum
1/2 oz Amaretto
1/2 oz Southern Comfort
(I have a tendency to be a little heavier on the alcohol)
2 oz sour mix
2 oz orange juice
Splash of grenadine

Pour into a highball glass with ice, garnish with an orange slice.

 

I'm very easy, it's Capt and diet or premium vodka and sugar free red bull for me
