"Rich people only like being around rich people," he said. "Nobody likes being around poor people, especially poor people."

that one line is the sound bite that will come out of it, but the entire context paints a different picture.

he's right of course about the sentiment, but nobody will be able to get past his choice of words to see that.

Isn't it more accurate to say people like being around people of similar financial standing? We feel more comfortable because we are living within our means rather than trying to keep up

no, that's not his point at all.

people want to go to a nice hotel that has a reputation of catering to rich people and it makes them feel rich even if they aren't.

nobody wants to go to a slum hotel with poor people. even the poor people who are there wish they could go somewhere nicer.

I feel like Wynn has said something that is part of the core belief of Vegas, but he said it really inartfully. He said it like an asshole. But part of what Vegas sells -- and part of its huge appeal -- is a fantasy. An escape. Being/doing/living things you never would do in your "real" life. And a big part of that now? A celebrity or rich experience ... see how the other half lives. It's an exceptional escape, but I feel like Steve had a bit of a "Trump" moment where he said things without the proper varnish on them.

I know it's not his point, I was thinking out loud. Although personally I don't care if the hotel is a hole if I'm with good company but it's hard to have fun if everyone with you has twice as much money to spend.

He's got to the age where he doesn't have to give a shit what people think. I look forward to that age.

Really? You can't have fun being around people with just twice as much money as you?
    Are you that insecure?

It's refreshing to hear somebody speaking their mind and not sugar-coating every word. This is why Trump is so popular, no filter.
