It is personal. Totally. I see that in the attitudes and comments of some of the mods I've known for years. Hell, people here already are defensive at times. It's human nature. We all do it at times.

There's a false crutch to the fallback position that it is a voluntary decision to join and a voluntary decision as to whether to abide by the rules. On the surface it seems easy, just follow the rules. But what I see from most, and particularly those who just walked away of their own accord, is that head-scratching sense that it's an internet playpen not the Constitution; we're all smart enough to know that something actually important in the grand scheme of things, like our Constitution, needs to change at times, so a chatroom is somehow dredged in timeless purity? There's a rules fog going on. It's about blind adherence to some ridiculous concept of inviolability rather than an admission that things always evolve. There's talk of "in our/my experience" and "it just seems to work best this way," and that's all just a refusal to pause and reconsider. Too much time doing it the same old way is what creates old cranky men screaming at kids in the street.

 

It's still my preferred board of choice, especially since the others are not viewable in my office. I guess I'm the only person never to have had an infraction on VMB so the rules never bothered me. Also the material here really doesn't seem to pertain to me (half the time reading postings I'm Googling a word or brand mentioned, or worse, trying to figure out the sarcasm) so it is what it is to me, another Vegas board.

That's what I've done with every Vegas board I've followed.

 

I was hoping for a response along the lines of 'come on, this is a vegas board. Lets forget about all of the bickering and concentrate on the vegas side of things' (or something like that but a lot better written). You have let me down ken

 

Gambling and the 135th re-hash of the Wagyu tasting menu at Stripsteak only take you so far, folks need fucktardery and trollery and clinical-grade meltdowns.

 

Just because he always goes to the off topic section doesn't mean he is going there for the bickering.

Actually, discounting the current outbreak of extreme trolling, I've typically found the diversity of topics in the various kitchen sinks to be the most interesting. That doesn't detract from the "Vegas" side of things, but for me it can't be all Vegas, all the time. It's also why over the years my Vegas-specific posts and interests have run more frequently toward food and general Vegas and hotel boards than gambling because gambling has become a very small part of how and why I Vegas.

And who doesn't like a good train wreck or three?!?

I've been looking at a few other threads and I actually don't understand the anger and pointless in some people's messages. Do they know they don't have to post or even read the threads? or is it a sick and twisted thing where they get off on it.
