It doesn't take a degree in poli sci to call the sides in this election. What staggers me -- actually, it doesn't given the typical American voter -- is the blind polarization and how it is getting worse and worse. It's scary: We're more interested in shit like Big Brother or whatever than in learning and thinking. We don't yet have a viable third-party option, though I am voting Johnson/Weld. (I figure they can read up on the WSJ and learn shit like foreign capitals and what not, and that puts them miles ahead of the other two pairs of chuckleheads.) Maybe it is time this thing gets thrown to the uberidiots in the House, we hold our noses, and then maybe, just maybe, D and/or R figure their shit out and quit pandering to the party fringes. Maybe the Libertarians this time start a true third-party movement. (OK, pie in the sky, I get it.) That certainly would be nice at the Congressional level for leveraging purposes.

I don't have an impactful option here in modern America, not with the two-party system as constituted and what it allows to float to the top in terms of Legislative leadership and POTUS candidates.

You all are just in the green gambler section in here huh? Lol Blue is my favorite color, probably why I'm in that quadrant. In all honesty, we have the worst choices in history this election and as others stated, I'm voting for whom I feel is the lesser of 2 evils.

 

Not seeing anything in the law that says you have to vote D or R, though R and D want folks to think that way.

 

No nothing saying I have to, but I'll support my affiliated party this election.

 

That's what Americans always do, which is one of the big reasons why we are where we are.

Look J/W have a snowballs chance in hell, and who wants to see it go to the Hill if by chance they do cause an Electoral draw? Then again, we also once paid allegiance to the crown, so sometimes shit has to happen.

 

The extremes of both sides scare the shit outta me. I truly wish that there was a strong libertarian candidate. There are good ideas that get shot down now because both parties want what is best for them politically, not what is best for the country in general. And if they didn't propose the legislation it is trash, regardless of what is in it.

The current system seems to work the best when the House and Senate are split, but close. When one party controls all three branches too much shit that is not good for the country gets rammed through, just because that party wants their policies enacted, Obamacare being the most recent, and it is more important to get the legislation passed than it is to make it work for the majority of the country.

 

Cuban may make a move in 2020. He's got the wits, logic and outsider approach without the wackadoodle downside.

I'm all in for the young guns of Chaffetz/ Gowdy/ Ryan but Cuban's centrist approach could easily lure me and a host of others away.

 

A "strong" Libertarian candidate? How do we get strong non-R/D candidates? This isn't a personality question, it is simply a vote question. People need to vote for them, not sit back and pine about how neither side is good. None of this is gonna rise in the power rip current that suits the two major parties.

Sure, from the top down, all that can happen at best is a trip to the Hill. But if one state or a few states denies one of the parties, then that party has a job to do over the next four years.

What would be nice is if this could start at the Congressional level, where that same tiny bloc attained can now be used to swing legislation.

 

Great bit from Cuban in this week's SI, talking about Kaep and Co., and anything he's going to try to get the Mavericks to do or not do. He talked about his first-gen dad enlisting at 16, and his grandparents fleeing authoritarian Russia, and how people are going to think and do unpopular things, but that right has to be respected.
