Who is going to be the first red? We'll get a grab-and-seize Hillarian to go with the Il Duce Donald brigade.

Here's me. Surprised myself although I think the wording of the questions was quite leading.

I think some of the questions were misleading -- probably a lot of them. Plus there was no neutral or no opinion choice. My place on the compass does not reflect how I vote.

You try to plot anything on a basic axis layout and there will be gaps. But here in the states, where we've collectively been brainwashed into a Blue good/bad, Red bad/good duality, gradients throw us off. And remember, philosophical orientation often shows skewed association to how we have defined political beliefs here in the either/or/no gradients United States.

Just look how what became the two major parties did a total flip-flop in the mid-19th century. Or try fitting TR into today's Republican Party, or Woodrow Wilson into the D camp?!?

yeah, it's amazing how conditioned we are to believe that "our" party can't do anything wrong and the "other" party can't do anything right.

I'm convinced that very few people are actually supporting either Clinton or Trump just on their merits. they're supporting one just because they hate the other that much. but it colors their view to the point that they can't see straight and can't see any faults in whoever they are supporting.

you say something bad about Clinton and Clinton-supporters try to come back with how Trump is so much worse. and vice versa.

like there's no way that Clinton can suck .... AND Trump can suck! OMG!?!?! mind blowing!

This is almost certainly by design. They don't want to hit issues of the day on the nose and get the answer based on the side chosen. They want to ask uncomfortable questions and leave you picking the best of imperfect answers. It can be pretty revealing, it its way.

But the end product still has quite limited usefulness. There are going to be holes in the questions, and bias in the design, and a politician who matches your plot point on the graph entirely can still have very different positions from you.

This is spot on. Personally, I think both are shit choices.

I think most voters in this election (regardless of who they vote for) will be doing so because they feel like they're voting for the lesser evil.
