Haven’t written a trip report in a couple years despite still making trips. Not sure if I can figure out how to load pics, but I have some, so I’ll try one of the room id plac. Just got back home and have to get ready for work, so we'll start with this for a trial run.

Thanks for the visual check SinD.
I hadn’t won in five trips and hand pays were scarce or non-existent. Not much incentive to write a trip report when you loose, and besides I doubt even my winning trips are that interesting to most, as I mostly just gamble and my days of debauchery are mostly behind me. But this trip was an improvement. Booked a long weekend trip thanks to cashing in on my son’s Father’s Day offer to watch our elderly pair of dachshunds. The last trip I took in March was a solo trip, and I really prefer to have the wife accompany me, so this was a nice thing for the both of us.

The weekend lined up for tournament at Paris and FP/Resort credit at NY NY. So we were off on Friday morning. Had the Paris host line us up with a limo from the airport which was nice. We usually just cab it, but with the temp over 100 it seemed like a good idea and it was. Besides it was good to have no argument with the certain percentage of cab drivers that would try to tunnel you despite your request otherwise. We had a great CET driver and got checked to the Paris suite the plac in the test post showed. After a drink at the Diamond lounge, we both played VP with nothing to report but modest losses. Then it was time to register for the following day’s slot tournament. I really don’t care that much for slot tournaments, but I do always try to book a tournament of some sort with each trip. I prefer BJ, craps or VP, and I have won $2k at two out of three of the last BJ tournaments I have played, and like tournaments because they sort of break from playing my own money.

I signed in and took the first available time which was 9am, so the play times wouldn’t cut up the middle of the day if we chose to wander during the day. Then we walked up to NY NY through Cosmo Crystals etc. When we got NY NY I registered and then we got some MyVegas comps for FP and Nine Fine Irishmen. Then it was on to play VP. Nothing to report for a hour or so and then we went to dinner at NFI.

I had awareness of the big UFC between McGregor and Diaz, but I didn’t think that much about the impact on Vegas. There must have been 20k Irish in town for the fight and NFI was full of them. I don’t quite get it why one would fly half way around the world to eat in a place that is supposed to be a mirror of what you left at home, but each to their own. Funny thing I heard while there, “I never would believe I could drink fifty quid worth of beer by myself and I still be thirsty.” Welcome to Vegas baby.

After dinner we went back and played more VP. Now just for reference a bit of history about NYNY and my relationship. We mostly have stayed at CET properties through the years, but have stayed at both the MGMs, Mirage, Bellagio and Aria. I like the Mirage and Aria, but the Mirage is too far north on the strip and my play just isn’t strong enough to get much at Aria. We tried NY NY a couple of years ago thinking the location was ok, and my play would get me what I wanted, but not so fast. After a mind numbing weekend loss with $3.5k on the last day alone, I go to check out and they nickel dime me for the food and resort fees. In the end, they pick up the food, but charge me for the last day’s resort fee; are you kidding? In addition, the room sucked and reminded me of a Motel 6 room.

Anyway, a few months since that trps they have been offering me rooms, $100FP and $100 resort credit with no resort fee. So I booked this with the plan of not staying in the room, eating their food, and gambling their FP with just enough play to keep the offer rolling. So, I’m playing 5 play quarters TDB ST and hit a quad with a kicker and a multiplier. Boom…

So we get out of the NY NY clip joint up about $1k and head back to the Paris, play some more and then up to the suite which has two full bathrooms for some unknown reason. Saturday I start at the 9am slot tournament and post a two minute middle-of-the-road 95k points.

Today is a busy day, tournament, the Israel Bick Collectable show at the Orleans and more play at NY NY, Harrahs and Paris. Collectables, did I mention collectables; no. That’s another aspect I try and tie into my Vegas trips; I go to Bick collectable and Beinfeld antique shows when I hit Vegas if the schedule lines up. After the tournament we walk back to NY NY and have breakfast at Il Fornaio which makes a pretty good breakfast.

Then we play some more, and we get a 24hr bus passes; we seldom, get a car anymore because of the traffic and the parking, the bus is easy. I head to the Link and the wife goes her way to shopping. From the Link I walk past the High Roller and to the Orleans shuttle stop. The shuttle gets me to the Orleans in about half an hour. I enjoy seeing some of the collectable dealers that I have known for years. After few hours there I head out with my hard won purchases and go for the shuttle back. Just missed it, I search out and play one of favorites, Dream Card VP. I drop about as much as I can in about 20 mins and then go outside for the shuttle.

After an extended wait I get on and we head back to the High Roller. Boy the strip was jacked up; I’m glad I was on a casino shuttle, or the cab would have been maybe $60 or $75. I walk back to Harrahs to meet the wife for dinner. I get there first and play some of the crazy variety of specialty VP games; I believe Harrahs has the most variety of VP hybrids of any of the CET casinos. The money gets vacuumed, but I have fun and then the wife shows. We head over to Harrahs Oyster Bar and take a seat at the bar near the oysters. The Oyster Bar is one of our go to places and we really enjoy the food there.

We order the bacon wrapped scallops and then something happens that cracks me up. Our scallops arrive and just as we start a couple shows up and takes a couple seats on my side. As we start on the scallops the couple studies the menu intensely. Then our main courses arrive, jambalaya for the wife and the pan roast for me. They have a great pan roast there, more than half a crab, muscles, half a lobster, all in shell with the lobster cut length wise, all so good.

Anyway, the couple next to me looks at my big bowl of seafood with trepidation. I start with the lobster and separate the meat from the shell and place the shell on the provided plate. The couple looks at my soup and then looks at me. They have a look of shock like I was ripping the heads off live kittens and eating their brains or something. Then the couple sort slides out of their chairs and move around the corner of the bar about ten feet away.

I continue with my meal and then the waiter comes to take their order. I hear the husband ask the waiter, “is there any seafood without shells?” The waiter taken aback, pauses and then suggests lobster bisque soup. Now this seems kind of funny, because it’s not like they should be worried about their clothes or something. I’m the one wearing the raw silk shirt and slacks, and my wife is nicely dressed in her usual Vegas attire, not so for the couple. These folks were dressed more like I would wear when washing my car, colored tee shirt and jeans. I’m guessing they were a little out of their realm and weren’t ready for food of the coasts. Probably would have to be there to see the humor in how this played out. After dinner we make it back to Paris.

Later at the Paris Champaign slots I try some 3 play $1 ST and burn through more cash than I wanted. So I get a marker and switch to the same, but DST on another machine. Along the way, Angela the waitress comes by for my thirst request. I request the best cognac she can bring me. She comes back with Hennessy Xo; that was unexpectedly nice. I play on and it levels out with some full houses and a couple straights and then it hits. Nice win helps me catch up, but doesn’t put me even for the trip. I play on and give about another $500 back while I have another one of those cognacs and then call it a night.

The next morning I start out with the 9am slot tournament and do about 30% better then the previous day. We head back to NYNY to have breakfast again and try and burn off the remains of the resort credit. I check out of the room we didn’t use, and it’s all is good, no charges. We head back to Paris and I play some more VP with nothing to report but modest losses. Now I’m free of my “responsibilities,” as much I like having a tournament, it does impose a schedule, which is one the reasons we go to Vegas is to avoid schedule like activities which we have so much of at work. In addition, having a second room down the street takes some follow through, but no matter we’re done now, so now I can plays some craps without distraction.

I used to play craps like marathons, twice years ago, I played through, and saw the crew I started with go home and return the next day, but no more. That’s why I took up VP, because I just can’t stand there at the table all day and night, a few hours is about it nowadays.

I find a table that looks suitable and start with a marker and no one, including me, does much other than establish a point, roll a couple numbers with no repeaters, and then show the one-after-6. I’m a progressive come better, so that stuff kills me. I burn through most of my marker and then the other players leave the table as they are busted. I move to another table and play about an hour with better success, but then the group which was together leaves for dinner. I move to a third table, and find it’s a $15 table, not my favorite because my rhythm is better suited to a $10 table even though my intent is to press. No matter, it will work if someone rolls numbers and repeats them.

So, the table is full, but not crowded. Most are modest $15 w/single odds players, except one older Asian gentleman one away from me playing blacks with a rack of about $3k. The play is choppy, but I figure the guy with $3k knows something, so as I burn down my marker and the dice move around the table a few times I decided I came to play, so I get another marker.

After I got the marker it was my shoot, and I did no better then I had before. The dice go around and I’m burning through it again until it finally makes it around the $3k man again. This time he shoots a few and makes the point. Then a bunch more numbers and makes the new point. He keeps shooting and I start pressing. I end up with all the numbers covered, and press up my come to $100 flat with various odds on each. I hit most numbers like this at least a couple times and then I stop making come bets and take the complete pay down on a couple numbers. It seems like he is still going strong so I place the two numbers back for $75 and go back to the $100 come bets for a few more hits before it ends. He held the dice for over twenty minutes and must have taken his $3k to around $10k.

I’m up over $3k and I consider coloring. But, instead I figure I should shoot once more before I go since there is only one shooter in between the hot hand and me, and besides I needed a few minutes to take stock in my situation. The next shooter starts and I reset with a $15 flat line and the same for a couple comes. He rolls a few numbers, and then is out like most of the rest of players this afternoon.

I get the dice and roll a four. I start rolling numbers with repeaters and end up with all the numbers covered again. I make it back up to $100 flat comes and it’s just like with the other good shooter just minutes before. The was one difference, despite making some of the numbers 4 or 5 times, I never hit the original point of four, but I don’t care. I held the dice for over 15 minutes and netted around $2.5k more.

Of note since I’m pretty much betting until the end with my progressive come bet play I leave quite a bit on the table when the bad number hits and that was about $1.5k each time. No matter it was a good win. Normally when I shoot, or am pressing up on another shooter, I tip the dealers by placing bets on the line with odds. After my shoot ended I paid my markers, and since the dealers never were able to benefit from me for my shoot because I never made the point, I felt compelled to toke them on the back end. In addition I felt the efficient large bosomed cocktail waitress deserved a winner’s tip. The net result and I still had cash in my pocket from before, which I neglected to capture in the photo.

Great write up. Love hearing about a hot hand at a dice game.
