Back in The early days that I would book CES and not a big gambler. I booked the Vegas World (now Stratrosphere is now) on the ad they posed for a free room if you pay $200 so something like that and get double the one time use promo. Still a good deal. They would advertise on Parade insert in Sunday papers.

I get there and there is a huge line so I spent the 3 hours to check into this dump. Missed the first day of CES trying to check in. Then get this there is a unflush Turd in the bathroom.

Still worse one night the sprinkers start to go off as one of the rooms was on fire so had to run down the stairs. I think i was on the 5th or 6th floor so not too bad but still had to leave and go down stairs for a few hours. Then they moved me to another room.

I don't think I ever went back to that place or Stratrosphere either.

My how times have changed. I'm calling the Aria a dump and complaining about house keeping waking me up. LOL.

A friend of mine was scammed by a girl he was dating. Se told him she was taking him to Vegas, made reservations on her credit card, and off they drove. When they got there, she couldn't find her credit card (red flag right there) so he put his down. She insisted it must be in her luggage somewhere. They spent two days there and went to check out at the front desk to put the charges back on her card, not his. Golly, she still can't find it. It turns out she had used her ex's credit card to make the reservation, he found out, and cut if off. She knew this before they left. And he still drove her home.

This is exactly why I am so diligent on researching hotels I stay at whenever I travel. If I go to a city I've never been to before I will spend a serious amount of time reading reviews and looking for not only a nice property, but one that is well serviced.

This was back in the 90's. No Yelp or online reviews to research.

On my second trip back in 2007, I asked the wife to join me. At this point in our lives were virtually empty-nesters. I was hoping for a romantic trip for just the two of us. Our 17 year-old daughter was fine staying home alone and probably would have had herself one hell of a party in our absence. But "she who must be obeyed" insisted that we bring the 17 year old along. Never mind that she was underage for all the things I hoped to show my wife. From the beginning the signs were there that this would not go well. On night one, our room at the Trop was broken into and my laptop, iPod etc. were stolen. Apparently the door didn't close all the way by itself and I didn't check behind by daughter who was last one out. Lesson learned. After calming the ladies down from their feeling violated and vulnerable, I called hotel security and reported it all. They told me there were no hallway security cameras and they were not liable for my loss. I spent day 2 in the Metro police department filing a police report. Still no gambling yet and no fun.
I wind up spending most of the trip alone after that and had a losing trip in more ways than one. Since then, however, the wife has warmed to Vegas and for this spring trip my adult daughter along with her adult brothers will join my wife and I.

July 4 weekend a few years ago for UFC. Brought my wife and another couple. Was hoping for a 2br mansion, but got bumped down to a 2br loft. The night before found out we got bumped out of the loft and into a Marquee. Really bummed. Then found out the Mansion casino was being remodeled and all the Bacc tables were out by Ka and Wolfgangs. Not looking forward to that.

We arrive in the afternoon and they tell us our room isn't ready, the previous guests stayed late and it hasn't been cleaned yet. And they don't have any other Marquees open. We have dinner reservations and have to get changed. After a bunch of phone calls and hassle they give us a regular room to use to get ready.

After dinner a few hours later, we come back and they tell us the room still hasn't been cleaned. I'm like how long does it take to clean a room?

So I go out to gamble and the tables out at Ka are as bad as i feared. All the regular dealers are in the back of the Mansion dealing to reserved tables in the salons. These dealers are terrible and the vibe is awful as well with all the looky-loos and commotion around the theater and restaurant.

They go have some drinks and walk around and come back a couple hours later and tell me the room still hasn't been cleaned. I'm incredulous because it's like 10pm and it's 1am our time and the girls are tired and want to go to bed.

So my host makes a call and gets us in the handicap accessible 2br loft for the night. The next day we have to move. Fine.

So I keep gambling and it couldn't have gone worse. Dumped my whole line +tto the first night.

The next day we move to a regular 2br loft which just suddenly opened up somehow. I felt like they were dicking me around bumping us out in the first place.

But during the move they lost a bag of my friend's wife. So then we have to spend more time tracking that down.

The rest of the trip was not memorable but I ended up losing every session I played and it was terrible.

Now those friends are divorced, he's remarried and I don't like his new wife and will never take her to Vegas and hardly see him anymore because of it.

I blame this horrible trip for starting the downward spiral that caused that.

I can honestly say other than some bad losing trips I've had nothing horribly bad happen to me.

I tore my MCL 10 days before a vegas trip and really had decided I should not go with a bunch of guys from work. Then someone suggested I just get a scooter...so I did. Pretty easy really and under $100 for the weekend. Good thing was I also brought a cane and had my physio therapist friend show me how to tape my knee. My knee actually felt better when I got home, as all the moving around helped loosen it up. Although the swelling did move down to my ankle instead.

I have also had a few Debby Downers come with us. I have learned that you have to inform people that what we do it drink and gamble. We're not going to go see shows, go to clubs and eat in 5 star restaurants every night. Yeah, those things may happen on one of the nights, but for the most part we are going to get fucked up and gamble like we need to call GA after. Some people want to drink tall boys from liquor stores and walk the strip...not going to happen.

I can't believe you got dicked around at MGM. Room wise.

The remodel. That was nothing you could do.

Caesars did that along time ago and moved all the tables out side. It was really bad having all the looky looks behind you.

When a trip starts off bad better to just not play.

I know easier said than done.

I lost half my line waiting for my room at Wynn Once so

Now I have the host have the room ready before I arrived. So I can go check in. But I get a regular room so it is a lot easier to do that.

Bad starts with rooms really mess with your mental state

I think you make a really good point about being prepared with who you travel to Vegas with. I went on another trip with some family members late last year and there seemed to be some confusion about everyone's budget and who wanted to do what. For the most part I like to have a nice dinner each night and try to see one show during a trip. Let's just say some of my family members aren't used to the finer things in life. They preferred we eat at McDonald's or splurge for a "nice" dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. I ended up paying for everyone or using my comps for the most part. But in the future I will make sure everyone is on the same page.
