we went out for Father's Day tonight to a Benihana's clone restaurant
My wife reminded me of a dinner 3 yrs ago, where we brought our 3 kids out, seated in same order,
with youngest near the 2 end seats.

we felt bad because our kids were rambunctious, and the father and his adult daughter we're very polite.
they left before our kids got their sherbert...so like 15 mins after they left?
I ask for the bill?... "oh the gentleman already settled it!.." Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

our bill had to be almost $300 USD!

turns out the pair of them are regulars and make a habit of this.
there was absolutely no indication they were even enjoying our company

anyone else have something like that happen?

In college I worked as a cashier at Ralphs supermarket in Rancho Santa Margarita. One day a guy was in my line and somehow mentioned he was buying certain things because he was hosting a golf tournament at Coto de Caza the next day, and then he proceeded to invite me to play in it. I think I even won some sort of raffle prize at the dinner afterward.

Not sure that's the nicest thing I've ever received from a stranger, but one of the first to come to mind.

Years ago I was working at an inner city San Antonio ER -- the only white people in the ER were the nurses working there -- it wasn't uncommon to have attitude about being white thrown in my face. I traveled over 60 miles one way to work at that ER and it used to piss me off when patients and visitors used to accuse me of being prejudiced. A simple thank you was an uncommon occurrence. I took care of an elderly woman who had back pain-- she waited at least 8 hours to see the doctor and all I gave her was a simple pain medicine injection. She was so grateful when she left she and her husband tried to give me $5 to buy breakfast that morning. These were very poor people and it meant the world to me that she wanted to do something like that. I refused and settled for a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. That was at least 15 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.
