Yum. When we were in Vienna we learned that the street places with the rabbit on the roof were the good spots. We had a nice brat sandwich at the corner place just down from the Hotel Sacher.

The culinary scene is Vienna and Prague is just amazing. In Prague, the heavy dishes liked braised rabbit with potato dumplings and the various stews are all amazing. In Vienna, the tapfelspitz (boiled beef) and schnitzel is just killer. The brats and sausages with spicy mustard can't be missed. Add in the German influenced Oktoberfest dishes like the pork knuckle and you've got a ready-made heart attack!

Nick, next to the shank, is that Kartoffelkloesse, potato dumplings? My mother made these once a year with Sauerbraten, red cabbage, salad with bacon dressing. As for beer, did you have any Stiegl Pils? It's a tasty German style Pilsner brewed in Austria. I recently had a Stiegl Grapefruit Radler that was very good, but more of a summer beer.

I'd be in heaven. Quality mustard can make or break a sausage sandwich and I love the varieties of spicy stone ground mustards. I'm a huge sauerkraut fan. We use to make barrels of it homemade and distribute it to friends on NYE. I have a tradition of making a pork loin, kielbasa, sauerkraut with dumplings every New Years Day and when I lived in the south they thought it was so strange. I also love homemade pierogies with cabbage, bacon, and onions. Oktoberfest is always such a great time for good beer in glass yards or boots, bratwurst slathered in spicy mustard, and fun! So jealous of you who get to travel like that!

Gotta have roast pork loin on New Years, a hog moves forward as it eats. I think one year we missed it, but when I got home I made sure to have a hot dog or some pepperoni.

I gotta admit, I impressed myself with this beef stew. The gravy was perfect.
