Reno ain't Vegas, and on some levels that's not such a bad thing. As we get the occasional Reno gambling and getaway question here, I was thinking a sticky might be helpful, a place to collect our varied knowledge.

    I'll start with a few see/do items:

Nevada Museum of Art -- for a town this size, this museum rocks.
Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center -- not the Lowell or OMSI, but a good diversion, particularly for kids.
Reno Aces -- AAA ball in a great stadium right downtown.
National Automobile Museum -- a.k.a. The Harrah Collection.
Truckee River Whitewater Park -- yet it's still a high desert town.
Tahoe and the Sierra -- more casinos, that lake, hiking, mountain biking, boating/kakaying/canoeing
Virginia City and Carson City -- the Old West and the state capital
Golf (area) -- Redhawk, Edgewood, Lakeridge, ArrowCreek, Greenwood, Coyote Moon, Genoa Lakes ...

I get out there occasionally, its a 4 hour drive up for me. I had been up there a bunch as a kid as well, as it was a favorite place for my parents to go.

There are two types of trips i'll make up there. One is a family trip, like i'm doing next month. That will include some kids time at Circus Circus, mixed in with some drinking and gambling. I have been to Virginia City once, that was when i was about 13 or 14. I'm interested to go back with my daughter as well as my niece and nephews.

The other is the guys trip, which involves heavy drinking and lots of gambling and some strip clubs. not much exploring done on those trips.

I definitely want to explore a bit more to check out some of those spots you mentioned Ken. In the end, they could be big money savers as well (keeping me from the tables and that money sucking midway at Circus Circus). A couple of years back i went up in February and it was snowing pretty good, and the drive up was just beautiful. I definitely want to check out some more spots during the snowing season, and check out some spots near the river.

I'll try and get some good pictures from my trip next month, just to add some decent visuals to the thread.

Organized Bar crawls have been quite popular in Reno. I know one of the biggest is the zombie crawl around Halloween, but crawlreno.com has all the listings.

The wing cook off and the rib fest are also big events.

Can't forget about Hot August Nights and the Reno air races.

I really enjoyed the spa at the pepper mill the last time I was there. They even have a coed area where you can relax with your SO.

I have a weekend of AAA baseball planned in August. It was a battle against an Aria comp and I went with the 3 hour drive to Reno. Staying at the Eldorado for the first time ever. Hopefully my buddy can get a furlough from the wife.

i might actually check out a baseball game when i'm out there on 8/20 or 8/21.. The Giants AAA team is in town to play the Aces. The ballpark looks pretty nice. Would have been nice to have a saturday day game so i could catch it right when i get up there.

Reno is for people who don't mind downtown Las Vegas and who like the outdoors.
