I have decided I need a new watch. Can't really decide, maybe Tag, Omega, Rolex. I would like to spend 6k or way less. Any suggestions. Maybe pick one up in April.

    Thanks

I'm gonna follow this thread closely. I'm in the same ballpark for a new watch. I REALLY like the look of the Breitling's. I know there's a lotta watch "knowledge" on here.

I recently bought a watch on jomashop. There is no sales tax if you have it shipped outside of NY state. The prices were very good.

It's a watch, I'm cheap, I have a basic TAG. Carry on, aficionados.

If you're going to spend more than a couple of grand you want a luxury brand (omega, Rolex and loads of others) and not a pseudo luxury brand (tag, Oris and loads of others) as the latter won't hold value. I've got an omega speed master professional I've had for about 5 years and it's still worth what I paid for it (ignoring inflation).

For 6k you're looking at a second hand Rolex or a new or second hand omega. Personally, I find the lower end rolexes a bit austere and I can't afford a higher end one so I stick to omega.

Personally I would consider a low level Panerai, love the distinctive look and feel and a very reputable brand.

Another fine choice. IWC also make nice watches but might be slightly above the price point the op has in mind in the US. There are some reputable places to buy online that can save a lot of tax when purchasing but if customs check the package you'll be hit for import and sales tax then.

Don't be afraid of second hand luxury watches either, but make sure you go to a reputable store. You'll be looking at older than five years for any sizeable discount on a high end watch though.

Yeah, I hear ya... but the only other thing I wear is a wedding-ring.
