I play VP because I feel at home popping in $100 into a bar top and getting hooked up with drinks rather quickly. I tend to go to the same places and have a few different machines I will play. In fact at CET there are only a few bar tops left anywhere that I will play. Because of that, I also tend to know some of the bartenders so that adds to the fun. But the number one reason I play VP and specifically bar tops is to get drunk!!!

On the occasion I play vp during the day and drinking is not the focus, I will be randomly scattered on any given casino floor that have half playable tables because CET is literally down to two bar tops that offer Ult X BP, my game of choice. EFF U CET for taking that away from your bar tops!!! I gotta start playing more craps.....

Video Poker for me is great for when I am too tilted and or drunk to play real Poker or might be spewing too much at craps lol.

I can just sit back, play and get great drink service playing a game which can be close to break-even equity or in some cases due to progressives getting higher, can even be a positive EV play. When I first started out playing VP, I ran extremely hot and was really only playing Jacks or Better. The strict rules of parlay a la Royal Flusher paid off for me big once, when I had parlayed up to $10 a hand and hit a royal for $8000, very savvy!

Now I play mainly Bonus Poker Deluxe, I would say it's the overall best VP game and a lot of strip casinos won't even offer it, even at the poor pay tables. It will definitely give you the best chance to book a winning session and also you won't lose too much when things are cold. If you are playing $1.25 per hand BP Deluxe, you get $100 per quad, any quad, which is awesome. My strategy is to start with BP Deluxe and if I hit more than two quads on my first $100 into the machine I'll usually switch to Triple Double Bonus which in my opinion is the second best VP game.

Hitting four Aces with a kicker in Triple Double Bonus is highly recommended :rocket::rocket:

One last thing I read that a lot of you are playing DDB ( double double bonus ).

Do you notice that this is probably one of the most commonly spread VP games across the strip ? There is a reason for that, the casinos do great on all of their DDB games. With perfect play, yes the % return is close between a large number of VP games, however, for your average session of say 30 minutes to an hour or two, you will very rarely have a winning session in DDB...

This is because of the volatility % on DDB, it is sort of in a grey area between very high and medium volatility. You really need to be hitting the 2,3,4's with a kicker or aces with a kicker to have a chance and why not play Triple Double bonus where the 2,3,4's w/ K will pay you 2000 credits and A w/ K will give you 4000...

Trust me, just avoid DDB, obviously the return % and volatility % does not matter if you are playing 7-8+ hour long sessions but I doubt many of you are. Play Bonus Poker deluxe and get 400 credits instead of 250 for 90% of the quads you will be getting and if you want to go for a bigger win Triple Double Bonus is where it's at.

Your argument is to avoid DDB due to volatility, yet you provide an alternative of the even more highly volatile TDB???

VP is a game for a lifetime, not discrete blocks of time.

I mentioned that DDB is somewhere in the middle between medium and high volatility. This is just my opinion but DDB's volatility % is in a really crappy range that will favor far more losing and break even results when you are playing shorter casual sessions...obviously in the long run it doesn't matter at all but I think DDB is one of the worst games a new player can get into.

You my as well bump it up to Triple Double Bonus so when you do get the hot session you really can knock it out of the park :fire::fire::baseball::baseball:

There is absolutely zero logic to support your strongly phrased "opinion". What is a volatility %???

Nevermind then, keep playing DDB ! and I was referring to volatility or variance %, for example, DDB is around 41% and TDB is about 98%. I was just trying to share my experience with having played way, way too much video poker and what I felt like I have learned, and what has been shared with me from more experienced players...

Obviously, it sounds like several of you are way ahead of me in terms of knowledge about the games and I'm always interested to improve and to learn more, thanks.

I guess we're just not seeing a nexus between the reality of the numbers and your "advice." VP is math. There are no hunches, there is no such thing as hot/cold. Simply numbers over a succession of trials that number to the Nth. Most people gamble rather illogically, to begin with, so in most counts it's a why bother thesis, anyway.

Okay maybe I can try explaining how I am thinking about things. One of the reasons I joined this forum was to improve my gaming knowledge. I am interested to hear your guys thoughts ...perhaps I will base this example off of slot machines instead, as that may translate better for you.

Lets say we have three different types of slot machines available for play, one is a very, very low volatility machine, lets say 20%, we have a second which is around medium volatility %41 and a third which is the highest of the three at 91% volatility.

In my example, three friends are wanting to play some slots for an hour, they each have two hundred dollars.

If they choose to play machine #1 - 20% volatility they will almost always get to play the full hour but the chances of a big win is very unlikely. Losing their whole 200 dollars is also very unlikely, since they will be getting many frequent small wins. I was trying to point out games I would recommend to new players, or people who just want to play for awhile at the bar etc.

Choosing machine #2 - 41% volatility The chances of all three players going broke before the hour is very likely and the chance of any of them booking a win is also even more unlikely, for example if we think of DDB, you need the 1 in 40'000 for the royal, or the 1 in 16,000 4 aces w/ kicker, or lastly the 1 in 7,000 2,3,4's w/ K and this will still only pay you $200. So for one of them to double their money or more, they are going to need to run very, very high above expectation during this hour.

Lastly, machine #3 - 91% volatility All three players are going to lose their money almost twice as often as if they were playing machine #2. The only difference is, when they do have a session when they are on the positive side of variance, the premium hands pay so much more that they are going to pay for this session and 4 or 5+ more like it. Unlike DDB, where you can't really have those monster sessions unless your on a absolute heater. Those sessions are far and few between.

The above is why I generally recommend one extreme or the other either a lower volatility where you get to play a lot and not lose too much, plus always have the chance at the 4000 credit royal. Or the other extreme for example TDB, where you just need one premium hand to win big and not a string of premiums like in DDB to on average have a winning trip on video poker.

Obviously, in the long run the % return on each of the games does not change and the math in a sample size of hundreds of thousands of hands will show similar results between the different games. If you read back to my originals posts, I was offering my suggestions for people who are in Vegas for the weekend or new players. On average in a smaller sample size, you will get much more favorable results not choosing option #2 ( DDB ).
