I am heading back May 22-24 for a golf event - the Coaches vs Cancer charity golf event. Here is the flyer and fact sheet for the event. (Attached) The golf event itself will be on Monday / Tuesday, with one day out at Shadow Creek, and one day of play at Southern Highlands. It is a cumulative score from the two days of play. last year we got second place net, and the team that "won" was the team playing in front of us on the second day at SH, so when they announced the winners, and we saw that the group in front of us was the winning group, there was no way that was possible. Every time we got to the tee box, these guys as a foursome could barely get the ball off the tee. Their tee shots were going everywhere but forward. Another cheating group that claimed they won, but it is no biggie as the prizes are not large for this event as all the money goes back to the charity. I think for second place we got a $100 gift certificate to the SH pro shop, so I got a shirt and still had to kick in some money to cover the cost of the shirt, lol. They do give out some door prizes like hats, shirts, golf shoes, balls, etc, so everyone does not walk away empty handed.

This is my 4th year doing the tournament in this version. Previously it was a football related golf tournament, playing alongside ex-NFL players and coaches, and then a few years ago it turned into a charity tournament benefiting the American Cancer society with college basketball coaches as the guest in your foursome. Most of the players in the field will be big donation funders of the Cancer society, so there are only 16 casino guests invited to play (one per team). I have played with some great people in this event, so it is always fun to participate as it is not a tournament that is played by serious golfers, mostly for fun and recognition of the support of the charity. The casino comps my entry fee for the event, and donates that cost to the charity. The past "celebrities" that I have played with in my foursome have been - Tubby Smith (basketball coach). JT the Brick (Fox sports radio host and emcee of the event), and last year the former UNLV athletic director Jim Livengood, who is a great guy and shared all kinds of stories about this days overseeing college athletics.

So, this will be a solo trip on some dead days in Vegas (Su-M-Tu). Will be kind of weird being totally solo as I usually have one of my friends tag along for drinks, dinner, etc, but everyone tied up this week, and my host is off on those days, as well as my favorite BJ dealers, so have to make the best of it! Staying at MGM in the Skylofts. I arrive Sunday morning, and head straight from the airport out to Shadow Creek for a warm up round of golf. Got my caddy ready and primed as I want to do 36 holes in under 4 hours. He is ready for the challenge, lol. Shouldn't be a problem as golfing solo I can get around pretty quick. Then, there is a reception Sunday night for the event, where they hand out some gifts, and have a cocktail party. Will hit the tables afterward to get the trip started from the gambling side.

For dinners, when I am solo I don't make too many plans, and like to freestyle my schedule, and just eat when I am ready, and not have too many events fixed to a timeline. I am sure I will end up at the Craftsteak bar one night chatting up our bartender friend Larry, who is a wealth of information about wines. May head over to Carbone again for the next night since the food there is so good.

I will update as I can, no promise on instant "live" updates, but will keep up as much as possible. Will probably be more of a semi-live report.

Nice! For a player of your stature, would they let you play all day if you wanted to? Does each round show up on your folio or once you're out there, you just play as much as you want?

Sounds like it'd be hard to *not* have a great trip with this itinerary, but I'll say it anyway: Have a great trip!

Just one round shows up. As long as the caddy is up for it, and you tip him appropriately for his time, you could be out there all day.

As fast as we play, I am not really out there any longer than a normal foursome would take. The caddies with the foursomes get out of your way when they see a single coming through

We also like to spend some time in the short game area there as there are not too many places with that type of practice facility. Most people that go out to Shadow don't even know it exists.

A shame we are gonna miss you my friend. We shall follow your exploits and hopefully you can make out like a rat in a cheese factory to give us some inspiration for our own trip two day after you.
