    Cash tipping thru uber...

I drive when I'm bored in the DMV...the pay really does blow unless you get someone that wants to go from Silver Spring to Dulles....otherwise you don't make much

They don't make a lot given the wear and tear on their vehicle. I've read many blogs where drivers say they make $20- wear and tear an hour on a good day.

Don't worry about police officers. The ones in major cities are pulling in $150k a year with overtime and that's not including the $55k or so going into their pension. Many purposely seek arrests towards the end of their shifts because that will add on an extra 3-4 hours of overtime to their shift. They do this by scanning license plates and seeking out people on probation/parole.

Just tried the app to estimate a fair between Maccaran and Bally's and sure enough the map shows up as a long haul trip.

I've never used it myself, but there was a big controversy where I live because of someone getting charged $1100 for a 30 minute drive on New Years Eve compared to the usual fare of about $70. Here's a link:

Used both Uber and Lyft last month and all seven rides were great people with clean vehicles.

I am through with using taxis in Vegas.

Uber sent out an email the day before NYE warning users that there would probably be a price surge. The price surge also encourages drivers to get on the road since it's an obvious peak time. The surge ends whenever there are more drivers than customers out there. I'm not sure why their customers were upset.

Lyft does set a cap on how much it can price surge. I'm not sure of the cap but it's nowhere near what uber charges

You can tell them which route to take once you are in the car.

Uber/Lyft will probably work better, long term, in Vegas than a lot of other cities as there's a large population of semi-transient workers who are trying to break into dealer/bar tender/other casino jobs and are working the graveyard shifts in their main job leaving them free to work for Uber/Lyft at peak times.

Lease for a couple hundred bucks a month direct from Uber? (Whether that is a sensible financial decision is a whole other matter)
