Well decent for me as a low roller. But I haven't been able to make it back to Vegas within the past year and a half (had a kid). The D still offers me 3 comp nights a month in a regular room with $25 freeplay and $15 food. This is decent for me and my level of play

I think The D is a great low roller grind joint. A nicer version of what the El Cortez used to be under Jackie Gaughan. In fact you could compare Derek Stevens to a Jackie. However I don't understand the love affair because outside of andiamo italian steakhouse, there's nothing exceptional about the place. Which is really too bad, because I think DS really shined up the turd that was Fitz.

However the joint still fails in comparison to some of its neighbors in terms of property quality and rooms. It will have been last Sept since I last visited the place and I plan on stopping in on my May visit. If the crowd is still the rough mix I have seen in the past, the cigarette smoke bad, and the dirty slot areas I think I am done with the place for good. I was really disappointed with how they F'd up the Vintage casino when they pulled out the coin droppers in favor of the shitty old Riveria slots. One Sigma Derby machine does not make a casino.

If I'm getting comp rooms at DTG would I be better off staying put there for my downtown portions of a stay?

My first visit to the D was right after they changed the machines upstairs and I was like vintage? WTF?

I was there a few weeks ago and I must say the service and cleanliness were much improved from the first trip.

Maybe words is getting back. I know right before labor day, my wife wanted nothing more then to get out of the place. I wanted to play Sigma Derby, the machine was crowded so we waited around. The change machine was empty on two separate days I was there and slot personnel did not know when it would be filled. Some of the slots on the second floor were down right nasty, as if they did not bother cleaning them up before dropping them upstairs.

I like Longbar as well, except for never winning on that bartop and the horrible amount of cigarette smoke when that place gets crowded. Ballys is equally as bad at night, since it just engulfs the lower casino area. As a non smoker I don't want to take years off my life inhaling second hand smoke in these casinos.
