I hate to say it, but when it comes to friends and loved ones they are not a big help to winning money in Vegas!

It is quite the conundrum, We want to have fun and having our friends with us for this is needed, but we also want to get our money on the table with the best chance for success.

How many of us have friends who want us to sit and play BJ or craps with them? Most

They either want to have fun and or get coaching. Either way, this social gambling with friends causes havoc on my bank roll.

Hanging around too long during a bad shoe or two, and too much coaching, causes missed opportunities(or poor plays) due to being distracted. The drunken poor plays are also more apt to kill you with friends as well.

    My Plan!

In a few weeks I am sneaking out to Vegas 3 days before my friends. My hopes are to get my majority of gambling done without the distractions, and alcohol abuse.

When they arrive I should have my gambling fix in, and then I can just party and play more socially with my buddies at their levels.

Anybody else have a better way, or thoughts?

Whenever I am with friends at the casino I usually just hang out and watch. When I want to play I go off and play on my own. This generally isn't an issue as I will be playing tiles or be in high limit while they play on the floor. Most of my friends also know that I only play blackjack solo and if someone else wants to buy in I will cash out. I often will go hang out with them while they are playing but won't play myself. This way I can get the social side but not have to worry about my own playing.

This is also why I prefer to play BJ at my own table. Less distractions and I can't think back through every hand that I lose to blame it on someone else's play. I also hate when friends or family stand around me when I play. It's too easy to take out my frustration on them or to blame them when losing (they are bad luck or "the cooler") when they obviously had nothing to do with it. Or they try to get you to stop when you aren't ready.

It's funny how superstitious I can get when it comes to gambling. People's gambling superstitions could be its own thread.

That's a great idea. My husband and I just split up, he sits at bar and I do what I want, works out well for us. We've got friends coming in march and I was hoping for something similar to your plan (getting in a few days earlier), but one is coming out right away. I don't mind playing low limits (or as is my case, penny slots) with them, in fact I enjoy it :) but I need me time for the more serious gaming!

    Hope your plan works out!

When I'm in Vegas with friends I'm almost always playing 6/5 blackjack because most of the people I'm with don't play the $25 minimum usually needed for a 3:2 table, so that costs me some money. Other than that, I don't think being with friends costs me money. Alcohol..that's another story.

Not directly related to Vegas, but on cruises with family, I have to sneak away because most want to play blackjack and oh lets all sit at the shuffle machine blackjack table for the night. I usually end up saying oh I am heading to the show see you a bit later, and they inevitably find me at the craps table or VP machine and say oh, btw how was he show.

    I go through phases

Sometimes I enjoy sitting around a table with my buddies cutting up and drinking while playing cards. Other times I want to sit there by myself and go hard.

Same with craps. I like both aspects of it...especially with friends when the table is hot.

I prefer to degen solo or with a fellow degen.

I will play with friends, but limits are low and I almost exclusively do table minimums. I get plenty of solo gambling in.

The trouble is when you buy in for $200 and play $10 hands and cash out for $500. I mean, fuck yes, a winner... BUT what could have been.

Don't have many friends who gamble, so it puts me in an uncomfortable situation when they go to LAS with me. I prefer gambling by myself while they're outside at the pool or something.

Hate it when my wife stands up next to or behind me while I play would rather have her sit down next to me. Lol that's prob my only pet peeve. That or the chain smoker who holds the cig on side closet to me while playing machines that are right next to each other.
