Tons of rain here in Houston -- jealous of my municipal compatriots missing it in Vegas right now! -- and everything is shut down. While not quite as exciting as snow days when I was a kid, I think I'll use this as an excuse to fast-forward the clock to 5 p.m. right about ... NOW. Cheers!

I heard Houston had 16 inches of rain yesterday? We don't even get that in 2 years!

Some parts got as much as 18 inches in six hours! We got about 7 inches at our place. All handled no problem. Good drainage ... drains. Not the soil!

I'm one bottle deep and ready for this shit to be over. But it's given me a nice chance to get ahead on planning my buddy's July bachelor party.

Rain in Dallas and on my way to Shreveport and it is moving to Houston. Too much rain, but still better than the Hail we go last week. Two of my cars got hit.

It's OK that is what insurance is for and they were the lease cars.

Woke up at 2am Monday morning when the thunder and lightning got bad. Tornado warning at 330am and it was close enough to me that I had to pay attention.

Fast forward to 7am and my boss not telling people to stay home. Great boss but his one blind spot is he's old school and unless you're dead you need to be at work.

I did attempt to make it but I was boxed in. I'm on the NW side where it was the worst (my neighborhood got 12"). During Ike and last years Memorial Day flood I could still get out. But this one prevented me from getting to any highways.

I have an f150 fx4 and the water was over my running boards in most areas. Thankfully I could hit HEB for beer and wings.

I've been here 8yrs now and know to not even attempt to go near an underpass. So I'm at a loss as to why people continuously try to drive through the water. I mean some of that shit is 20ft deep!!!

The girl who died on the west park who drove around the barricade? Sad. But why?!

So we have had two hundred year floods in back to back years. Hwy 6 north of 10 is shut down for awhile.

I picked a great week to go to Vegas despite a losing trip. I even avoided all of the craziness for hurricane Ike by going to Oktoberfest in Munich.

Tropical Storm Allison was the first weekend I ever lived in Houston ... I haven't missed a storm since! Ha.
