Continuation of the increasing random fees, parking fees, resort fees, etc that we all hope won't get worse and worse but has already shown that it will. Even more indicative of the way Vegas is trending these days. Instead of trying to attract gamblers they're trying to nickel and dime people without regard to the long term affects. Sure the current flavor is to cater to the massive amounts people spend on the clubs and such and so I'm sure they're still selling rooms, but this price gouging from PGP to other such fees throughout the town is getting worse with no visible end in sight.

We can all hope it gets better, but with 6:5, PGP, parking fees, etc, it doesn't look like it will.

I read something in passing the other day where some politician is introducing or plans to introduce a bill to make the resort fees become inclusive in the price ala airlines and their fares.

I hate being nickel and dimed.

But I don't look at the resort fees as something other than a rise in the nightly rate. They're using shitty tactics because of the booking sites and how the rates are displayed.

Their presentation of the fees annoys me more than anything. Wanna raise your price? Fine. But the optics of doing it and how you do it matters to the customer base.

This is really starting to piss me off...Agree with Rocky, the presentation of the true price, or lack thereof, is what is really irritating. Wife and I have been trying to decide between an early spring trip to Vegas or New Orleans this year.... They are making it very easy for us to decide to enjoy some cajun food.

I agree. The nickel and diming is the worst. Until the prices are regulated to include all fees, the hotels will continue to do this in order to be given the appearance of competitive rates. If one chain did the 'right' thing and just increased their prices but another chain didn't, going on one of those hotel websites would give an 'advantage' to the hotel that has the resort fee UNTIL it comes to check out and then the people will all throw up in their mouths a bit when they find out they actually got screwed.

sure, resort fees are sneaky, but caveat emptor.

it's only an issue for the math-challenged.

if you can't figure out that X+Y is your nightly room rate, you deserve what you get.

Even at 30 bucks it's still way less than a lot of places. For example a lot of places I've stayed in the Caribbean charge 18%-20%!! On a 1k+ a night room that adds up really fast

Can't recall if I mentioned this here or on VMB but you'd think with the amount of negative feedback they hotels get and the number of arguments the front of the house staff has to endure they'd find a way to appease their customers.

but then again as shifter says it's pretty well known now and it should be factored in. If the extra $30 per night is going to make or break the vacation then hold up until you can afford the additional charges.

Even with these fees Vegas is still a lot more affordable than many of the places as Geoff mentioned.

But just once I want to see a big corporation say "look we are in the customer service and hospitality industry and we don't want to be viewed as nickel and dining our valued customers."

Perception matters. And you can still be profitable while providing great service.

The thing is, if you know about the resort fees and they are advertised, sure. I have yet to pay resort fees and such, but if I was a once every few years Vegas traveler and didn't know about the resort fees etc, it would definitely rub me the wrong way. I'm not sure if the various hotel booking sites show what the resort fee is or not as I have not used one of them to book a Vegas room ever, but if it does not the non-savvy Vegas traveler may not know it exists until they check in. However, you are correct in that it is still very affordable it would just be pleasant not to have to worry about hey does this place charge resort fee or how about this place. Just increase the price and be done with it.

Not a fan of resort fees either. What really ticks me off are when places like the Mandarin Oriental charge a resort fee... don't really consider a city hotel as a resort..
