We had a comped balcony which they usually give us and we upsell through our ta to a lower-end suite in the Haven. Total out of pocket including pre-paid gratuities was $1,300-$1,400 total for 2 people.

Not including the cost of gamble loll!

Just curious about the comp'd balcony... how you'd come across that? Simply from gambling on previous trips?

Besides more room in the suite, what does the $1.3-1.4k get you?

And, I think you said this was a short three day'er... so, that's around $400+ per day... is that right?

The last cruise I went on, I paid about $1200 for the two of us in balcony room. Gotta have the balcony. Every night and every morning we sat out on it... either with wine or with coffee. Very relaxing.

Yeah, we were on the NCL Gem and Breakaway last year and put in a bunch of play. Being in the suite gets us in the haven where all suites have access to a private pool and hot tubs only for suites and their own sun deck.

Also have their own restaurant called The Haven Restaurant, go figure lol. Also suites get all 4 offers for booking:

Free ultimate beverage package which gives free drinks for the week all over the ship, $250 toward internet usage, ultimate dining plan lets you eat in their specialty restaurants which include a steakhouse, Italian place and a seafood place without paying the up-charge cover cost and the a $75 pp credit towards an excursion which we used towards the Brewery Tour were taking.

Not a bad deal at all and it is 7 days, Sunday to Sunday.

Edit: fully agree the balcony is the main reason I cruise, simply a great place to relax!

T, we talked about cruises before. I have never been on a cruise (been afraid as I get really sea and car sick) and would like to take my 8 year old. As you know it's a little tough for me living in Los Angeles but would like to look into it. Can you please send me some info? There web page or whatever. Best rooms and locations like heaven and so on. Don't go out of your way and only if it is easy for you. At your leisure Ty. You have my email I think? Thank you..

There are a few tricks to try and reduce the possibility of seasickness. I'm lucky and have been on a number of cruises without getting sick except once which might have been from drinking too much and really rough seas.

If you are a known player, pretty much any junket host would be able to get you onto a cruise....comped. I have a junket host, but I'm Canadian, so I'm not sure how much help they would be to you. Check with Broncofn. He's done cruises with a junket host and can refer you.

    Packer,

I too am susceptible to motion sickness and have read and have personal experience that on a cruise you should pick a stateroom that is as close to mid-ship (fore and aft) as possible on a mid-level floor (not too high - the higher the floor the worse you will feel). In fact, if I recall on NCL's site when you get to the point of choosing a stateroom, there's a section on that page that gives these general tips ...

Here's a snippet from a Yahoo page discussing this subject (

"If you’re still worried about motion sickness, then you’ll want to be sure to pick the right cabin. When you book, look at your ship’s map online and check out the layout to help you decide exactly where you want your cabin to be (just like you would use an airline’s online seating map to pick your seat).

When it comes to location, middle is best. “The more towards the middle of the ship, the better. You’ll feel more stable,” says Suver. “If you have a tendency to get seasick, avoid cabins the farthest aft [rear] or the farthest forward.”

Generally, experts say the higher you go on board the ship, the greater your risk of feeling movement, which may affect some people. Stewart “The Cruise Guy” Chiron recommends that sensitive cruisers avoid cabins in the “tower” structures above the main deck. Instead, you’ll want to look for cabins within the hull. “It’s the most stable part of the ship,” he says."

Also, since you're LA based, there are many wonderful cruises to choose from including those that sail to the Hawaiian Islands and beyond!

All the above posts are good info Packer, the only thing I will send is keeping in mind you will have your little guy and some of the Cruise lines have much better activities and slides and clubs for the kids where they can interact with other kids their age in a chauffeured environment, than others. Royal Caribbean seems to have some of the best ships for mass market lines that have lots of things for kids. Check out this site for their Oasis Class Ships

Their Quantum Class ships, one that sails from NJ has bumper cars and all sorts of video game stations and skydiving simulator

Along with very nice suites and semi large casinos, though the casinos as you will see are not vegas quality.
