Anyone going to the opening this weekend? I will be in DC for business and thought about staying the weekend to give it a shot.

No, but I expect them to kill it with this location.

My host from Bellagio moved there to head the other hosts so I will probably make a visit at some point.

I received an Mlife e-mail offer for two free nights stay but the dates were mid-week before Christmas, and there's no way that's happening. I lived in DC for three years and have family and friends who still live there, so eventually I'll be able to check it out.

Also, I agree with Tellafriend that MGM is about to make bank from this resort. The DC area has a lot of high-income people, and it was spared the worst of the 2008 financial crisis and recession. People there have money to spend. MGM would do great even without the tourist, convention, and business travelers (until I lived there I never had a real appreciation for just how many people flow through DC). Another big plus is their location; less time in that world (in)famous DC traffic to get your gamble on. It will be a lot easier to get to National Harbor than drive up to Maryland Live, that's for sure!

    They will kill it.

There's very little in the way of competition around the DC area. Maryland Live is a complete joke and the Horseshoe in Baltimore is better but not by much. The MGM looks like a real casino whereas the other two seem more like buildings that have booze and slot machines.

They had a friends and family soft opening last week and it looked very nice. This is probably not the weekend to go though. I'm sure it will be slammed with parking, traffic issues abound.

MGM is pushing this property hard. The last couple of events I have been to they have had National Harbor reps there pushing the property, handing out business cards, transfer your LOC, we'll take care of you, etc, etc. A lot of the Vegas area MGM personnel transferred out to NH. I also hear that a golf course is planned nearby (across the street?) so that they can have a golf course attached to the property for the guests. A couple of the Shadow Creek caddies were talking about maybe going out there if the golf course comes about. I do not know that area well, so do not know exactly where the golf course would be located in relation to the casino.

So a golf course project could be in the works?? Would be quite a few years away of course, but would be a nice addition to the property

Actually... I just checked and it seems a lot of that largely undeveloped area is park land... so a few years may be optimistic.

I plan to wait a few weeks and go closer to Christmas.

The wife and I got the midweek 2 comped nights offer so we're going next Thursday. I plan to get some pics of the room and the property and, of course, will update on the gambling conditions.
