Any of you floating around here? Although I seem to be in LV as much, I float around the locals periodically

I don't think I actually qualify as a degen (though I aspire to be one someday), but I try to get to one of the locals once, sometimes twice, a month. Typically Harrah's Joliet, sometimes Hollywood Joliet. Mostly I go with Al (one of my Vegas regulars) for some low limit craps, sometimes by myself for poker, on rare occasions Lou (another of the Vegas regulars) will join us.

I'm planning a road trip in the second week of August to Chicago and will stay at Harrahs Joliet for 4 nights. Anyone with anything nice to say about that place? I've never been out to the Chicago area so I figured it's be a fun trip for the kids and will use the casino for comped rooms and free food, to boot.

Chicago is great, Joliet is not. If you are planning to spend four nights in Joliet, your kids will be bored to tears. The casino is passable for a local, however I would not consider it a destination. It is a 45-60 minute drive to Chicago (depending on traffic), so it's not too far to use as a base to go downtown, but Joliet is not a great area.

Anything nice to say about the place? It's 100% non-smoking on the casino floor and the poker room is nice.

I live closer to grand Victoria. Not far from rivers or Hollywood Aurora either. However, when I get the itch, I usually hit harrahs Joliet mid afternoon when in the area for work. Let me know if you are ever headed over on a weekday during the mid to late afternoon.

Rycelover. The casino itself it ok I guess. Very small. Conditions vary greatly depending on what kind of game you are looking for. Nothing in the immediate area to do with the kids. If you are looking to go downtown Chicago, allow 1.5 hours most times. It's not close.

It's the closest CET property so being the denen cheap ass I am, it'll have to do - especially since I'm getting two rooms comped! I plan on doing 3 1-day trips into the city to explore; sure beats paying through the nose for a hotel within the city limits.

Absolutely, I will. When Al and I go, it's usually weekday, mid to late afternoon - best time for cheap craps tables!

If you need some recommendations on things to do with the kids in the city, I'd be happy to provide some for you.

Ty is spot on with this ^

Rycelover- actually, Horseshoe in Hammond is much closer to downtown and is right on the lake. With no traffic, it's only 20 minutes. Problem is, the area is terrible and I definitely wouldn't bring kids along.
