Well, maybe after the chaos settled down. But, given historical precedent, it could be very, very tumultuous in a scary ballistic kind of way.
I can only wonder how well the ChiComs have this guy on their leash. Because he makes the Mullahs look somewhat rational.
Missile defense hardware may be a primary requirement before anything would be done to this guy.
The reaction to a killing would make the Hitler assassination attempt consequences pale in comparison.

I just meant killing the leader isn't going to change the regime, and certainly won't make them friendlier.

 

Are you referring to the attempt at the Wolf's Lair? Yeah, the aftermath of that was very messy. Rommel, a Hitler favorite, was given the choice between suicide or being hung by piano wire. He opted for the former. Most, maybe all, of the conspirators were murdered, probably tortured first. The movie about this incident was pretty good.

According to the History Channel, there were over 400 assassination plots uncovered during Hitler's regime. And I guess I have to agree, one of his sidekicks, Himmler, Goebbels or Goering would have carried on, although Goering was a drug-addled, doofus clown by that point in time.

Actually, now that I think about, Der Fuhrer's demise might have improved Germany's chances in the war, since the general's might have gotten more leeway to fight strategic battles, instead of Hitler's waste of manpower with his "hold to the last man" policies.

I wonder if it would be the same with North Korea? With the mad man out of the way, maybe the general's, no longer fearing being murdered for the slightest misstep, would adopt a more conservative approach.

Would have been almost certainly true. As far as NK, I don't know who would emerge from the chaos in control. Generals? It's been the family for a long time. For sure it won't be poor Kim Jong-nam.

 

I think it Kim's quick demise would touch off a huge civil war, with a lot of the generals and others saying "Whew, what a relief that crazy bastard is gone."

I'd have to say NO at this point... if we've learned nothing from the past, it's got to be that the chaos that ensues from deposing a leader (think Libya and Iraq) might possibly be worse. I actually like Trump calling Un's bluff a bit and hoping China sits on Un some. "Hoping China will do something" doesn't really leave me with a good feeling though.
