Howdy all. This precursor is more for me and curing my boredom (dreaming of Vegas) at work than anything.

(Title is the twitter tag for Steelers' fans this year. #herewego)

When last we blogged / reported / updated / trip report'd, it was August and we stayed at the Cosmo, had some fun in a certain Bungalow, visited Red Rock, and visited the Green Door. You know, the usual....! This trip will hopefully prove much the same...(minus the bungalow)

Plan is to fly out of KC around 4:45 on Friday. There's a nasty system coming this way with ice and snow and general yuckiness, so we're hopeful to get out and away from the crap before its arrival. Sounds like it will be close. Hopeful arrival around 6 local Vegas time (night landing...might be a first for me??). Renting a full size car for $100 (including fees) total for the trip through Hotwire (Alamo). Staying on a 3 night comp at the Venetian, including an invitation to a 2-day Blackjack tournament. Pretty excited to give that a go. I'm not expecting anything from it other than a cool experience. Any type of win would be a fluke and a bonus. I certainly have read up on strategy (of tournaments) but beyond that, I'm a newbie at these. Pretty pumped no parking fees this trip. Probably the last time I can say that.

We had plans to meet up with my very best amigo and his lovely bride Friday night, as they were gong to drive in from Phoenix, but his Mrs. is sick so they pulled the plug early. So, no plans at all Friday, which is great. We'll find a great place to eat and go where the night takes us. Saturday we'll register and play in the first round of the tournament and of course, watch the Divisional games. We saw Daniel Tosh is in town and we've got tickets to see him Sat night. The Mrs. is a huge fan and we missed him last time we were there (and he was there too), so this is a huge 'get'. Saturday night after the show...party time.

Sunday, we need to figure things out with the tournament. We're both HUGE Steelers fans, so the plan is to head to Twin Peaks to take in the game. Wanted to do Lagasse, but they want $125 per person minimum. I just don't think I can do $50 in food and $75 in drinks in 3+ hours....especially on a Sunday morning of a non-Super Bowl game. Game starts at 10am local....will need to get up and ready early. Need to find out BJ times though. After the game / tournament, we're gonna pack up and head out to Red Rock for a 2 night comp ($100 free play and $25 food credit). No plans beyond arrival there, although Red Rock Canyon might be high on the list again. This time we'll be prepared and able to hike and dress appropriately. We leave Tuesday at 1pm to fly back to the cold and ice.

I'll try to update with some food porn / chip porn / VP porn pics (real life porn??) and report as best I can along the way.

Well, shit. What a night. It's now Thursday night (Friday morning) in KC. I took my kiddos out to dinner and stopped by a new health clinic on the way home. I've been hit hard with strep and then a nasty sinus infection....had it basically a month now. My ear was hurting and I knew flying would make it worse, so wanted to see what's what.

Doctor looked and didn't like what he saw with ear or throat, so he gave me a steroid injection in the left buttocks and an antibiotic in the other....did so to quicken the process and get me bettter sooner. I get home and instantly seize up. Palms are itchy to the point of painful. Eyes swelling shut, lips getting bigger...hives everywhere. Uncontrollable sneezing and coughing. Yep, allergic reraction. Bad one.

I called the Dr and he headed back to open his clinic (gotta love small towns) and he hit me with an Epi and some Benadryl. BP dropped and pulse skyrocketed so I chilled for a bit and he repeated shortly thereafter. I'm now in bed, feeling much better. Skin redness has gone from bright red back to white with splotches of red. Not itchy. That was one scary ordeal.

So I manned up after getting the kids settled and thought a bath might help. Took the ipad in and was dicking around and I looked to make sure our flight is still ok on SWA....wouldn't you know of the 10 or so flights scheduled out to Vegas tomorrrow, ours is the only one that got cancelled already due to the weather (which, according to weather.com says nothing will hit KC until midnight tomorrow). Unreal. I give them a call and ask for a call back 46 minutes later. They were right on time. Said best they could do was 12:30 the next day....told them to try again. We're now on a 6:30 through SD, arriving at 10pm instead of 6 like originally planned. I will not put money on this flight happening.

I'm looking to extend the trip a day if we can get there and make up for the lost night. Hate drama, and apologize for complaining but this was a brutal night...guess all things considered I'm lucky I caught the reaction when I did...from reading about this, it could have gone bad quickly.

Let's hope!! Paying now to win later hopefully. Feeling much better this morning. Just uneasy about getting out tonight. If that doesn't happen I'm guessing we are screwed to get there. Forecast will get worse and guessing KCI will shut down eventually. Fingers crossed!!

Here's hoping you can get a flight out. Do you remember my last trip? I had cancelled flights at every airport. Mad dashes to get a flight south or west. I took a flight to Philly. Then ended up in Dallas. Nothing left but convinced them to put me on the overbooked flight to Vegas and made the plane a minute before doors closed. Lol Then got to LasVegas and they lost my luggage. Took 24 hours to find it. BUT I made it to Vegas! Got sick and didn't leave my room for 2 days once I got there, but I'd do it all over again! Lol My son in college got strep over Christmas break and had the exact same thing happen! He broke out in hives everywhere and could barely breathe. We had to rush him back and it took two days for the welts to go down. I'd say you got ALL the bad luck out of the way and you will have a phenomenal time with lots of wins in Las Vegas! Keep the faith! If your new flight in cancelled bully your way on to another flight going west and then get on a flight to LV from there. There is always a flight to Vegas you just may have to take a shitty route to get there.

Holy crap - sorry for such a rough start! What a horrible night : (

Hopefully you'll make it out here soon! It's cloudy / rainy today but supposed to be nicer tomorrow I think.

    Save travels and good luck!
