Going to Vegas in April and historically I've always stayed on the strip. I have an offer for a free standard room at the Mirage (where I almost always stay), but thinking maybe about trying DT even though I don't have any comp offers. I'm in my early 30's, looking for a place that has nice rooms, good lively gaming, and good drink service, I could care less about things like nice pools, party atmosphere, and fancy restaurants, as I'm sure most of my "nicer" meals will be on the strip. Any recommendations?

If you like a party atmosphere The D is a fun place. The golden gate is fun too but the hotel at the d is supposed to be much better, owned by the same guy. Golden Nugget is going to be the closest to strip quality when it comes to room and resort.

Second The D. The music in the casino is super loud and fun. The rooms are basic but clean.

I think the D is the best fit for your as others have mentioned. If you are worried about room quality and amenities vs the strip, stay at the Golden Nugget.

For the past few years we have been splitting our 10 day trips with half at the Mirage and half at The D. We always get a premium corner king room at the D so that you get a fridge and a little more room. It is a pretty basic room but it works for us we love it there.

I appreciate this thread - considering a long trip in June (10 days potentially, depending how Fugly this weekend is and work), and would like to stay downtown a few nights, without feeling like we're slumming it. I'll be sure to get a card and put some play in this weekend to see if I can't eek out some teaser offers ; ) (as with all best laid Vegas plans, odds are long I'll actually accomplish this, haha)

If you want something strip quality get a room at the Golden Nugget in the Rush Tower, nothing else on Fremont Street is even close. Some properties have a few rooms or suites that are very nice but can't touch the Nugget.

Agree with AJP. We have been splitting our trips 2 nights on strip and 2 DT. We really enjoy the rush tower rooms at the GN.
And besides free room we have been getting a food allowance, which we do not get on the strip.

The suites at Golden Gate are nice, not sure what game you're playing though? Tables it depends on what you're looking for? Dancing bikini dealers then D or GG. More relaxed and traditional atmosphere? Then go with the Nugget. Don't really play slots, but would assume Nugget has best mix, just given floor space. If VP is your game then the D is probably what you want.

Thanks for the help everyone! Definitely sounds like it's between D's for the experience or Golden Nugget for the space and luxury. I'm mostly a slots play, mid-to-high limit, although I do love me some craps. I'm not into BJ or VP, just too boring for my degenerate lifestyle :).

Did the Rush rooms at Golden Nugget go no-smoking recently? That would suck as I'm leaning more that way, but all my buddies smoke like a chimney.
