Seems the wife and I will be visiting New Orleans for a few days over Easter, staying at the Harrah's there. Anyone been there and have any good information about the casino and restaurants within? For that matter, anyone have any good suggestions for restaurants in/around the French Quarter. Sightseeing suggestions? Might as well query the crowd here before I go off into the wild seeking information.

Stayed at Harrah's NOLA in November. Casino and rooms were both great. No issues with either. Can't remember if drinks were comp at tables. Actually won money which is a rare occurrence. Didn't eat at Harrah's but watched a few games and had drinks at Manning's. Lots of TV's if you are interested in keeping up with MM. Drago's(inside the Hilton next door) for po boys and char-grilled oysters, Acme Oyster on Iberville was great too. There will be a long line. Grab a drink and wait it out. Well worth it.

    Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse on Iberville
x 2 nights for dinner. Vibrant bar, drinks, dinner, and service were spot on.

Obviously Cafe Du Monde on Decatur gets a ton of hype for their beignets. Saw lines of a block or more during the weekend so stopped by on a Monday and walked right in.

Had never been to NOLA before this trip and had a blast.

    Have a great time!

When I stayed there it was pretty nice. Free drinks in the casino. Diamond lounge was decent (served local food but not really a meal), free drinks at the club inside with diamond card. Supposed to have a limit but they didn't care bc I was tipping well. I was there during the week last summer and the casino was pretty slow n

My favorite restaurant is GW Fins on Bienville Street just off Bourbon Street. Great selection of fresh seafood and extensive wine list. +1 for Dickie Brennans, a great old school steakhouse.

If you're a craps player Harrah's New Orleans is pretty kickass. 10X odds on all table denominations with fire bet and some interesting prop bets.

Plus it's nice you can walk out the door and tie one on in one of the greatest american cities for power drinking. Note the titty bars should be avoided as they are seriously awful by every measure on the checklist.

Word for GW Fins. Best drum fish I've ever had.

    Some Recommendations
Muriel's in Jackson Square for dinner and have a drink in the Seance Lounge.

The Corousel-Bar in Hotel Monteleone will facilitate a far classier recreation of the rotating bar in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Glad you guys are getting away. My in-laws get flown in there all the time but other than walking by, I can't help on the hotel. However, you know me, so I'll pop you on over a PM with some food and golf thoughts for the Crescent City. :)

Great information from everyone!!!! Thanks so much!!! The craps information sounds fantastic...and all the restaurant info as well.... I hope the 10x odds are still in play, and the fire bet....Last time in Vegas I was still getting my craps ears wet, and I wasn't sure what the fire bet was, figured it out at Bally's after I rolled 4 points and this semi-hot lady came over and gave me a nice little hug.. : )

Ken - big day on the 23rd, but assuming all goes well, we'll get away as planned...will be looking forward to your info. :beermug:
