I have to disagree with that latter sentiment. I've eaten so many solo meals in Vegas, from dives to the snob-a-toriums, and it's been fine -- the lesser joints are where I would get a bit of push back, I'll say, but even that's been rare. I've done multi-hour tasting menus and not received any flak. In fact, servers/captain/wine stewards often take a bit of extra time to chat, I've found.

I absolutely love the food at Carbone, but I actually am not a big fan for solo dining. The problem is that most of the portions are just too damn big; it's meant to be more of a family-style place, and so many of the dishes aren't really designed for a single person eating alone.

And I'll second Ken's observation. I've eaten at Picasso solo a half-dozen times, and generally found that I get even better/more attention than when I'm there with other people.

I agree that the portions are too big at almost all restaurants. I order what I want...because I like to have a lot of different tastes. I cut a small potion for myself and the restaurant packs everything up. I have a lot of my regular dealers that are happy to have what I don't eat. I even do this at breakfast. I hate seeing everything go to waste, so for me, this has been a good option.

Why wrong? Just different expectations and experiences, I'd say.

Going solo Thurs-Sunday. The only place I must go to is Javiers. I'd like to try Carbones, but not sure they're solo eater friendly. Im pretty sure its family style there.
