We are headed to Vegas in a couple of weeks for Fight Week. By the time I was sure we could get tickets to the event, airfare for the times we wanted were outrageous, so since we have time to use, we decided to make a road trip out of it. We have a plan for the first two days, but wanted to get some tips if possible for driving through Yosemite. As i am old and fat and no plans for any hikes, kids are teenagers with no desire for the days in the car, so I just wanted to make an efficient plan to drive through, see the majority of cool views that my wife and I are interested in seeing and hopefully not get stuck in a crawl traffic wise.

I am leaning toward the drive up to glacier point for the view, then drive the loop through the valley, then back up to 120 toward nevada? Going to be approaching from San Francisco, should I head down toward Merced to line up with the drive to Glacier Point?

    Thanks for any pointers.

Season is at hand, it will be a slog driving all those loops, just so you are mentally prepared.

Tioga Pass is a Top 10 American road trip road!

I think that I am prepared. It will be mid week so that will hopefully cut down on some of the traffic, but it is also right after the fourth, so that may be negated. I grew up in Montana near Glacier park, so every time family came to visit we had to do the Going to the Sun road. Also went to college at MSU near Yellowstone, so have driven through there multiple times. I want to see the park, and we are flexible with time constraints, so we will go with the flow, but as I am unfamiliar with the park, just trying to optimize as much as possible first. And with the video clip, I am good with going along, stopping for a short viewing, taking some pics, and moving on.

Sadly, in the valley, it's gridlock and smog, at times. We're "loving" some parks to death.

Still fucking gorgeous ... and have I said anything about Tioga Pass being an awesome drive?!?

I am looking forward to seeing it. I will just prepare for slow moving driving. We are planning on driving through on Wed and no firm plans in Vegas until Thursday evening. At least the road should be better than the one time I took a seasonal mountain pass road in SW Montana. I had never gone that way before but map looked quicker than backtracking on our way back to Seattle. Turns out it was a gravel road, mountain pass, no rails. My wife was not impressed.

Probably consult the nav system by then, unless there is something I should really try to see on the way.
