Yeah at one time it was the best, but now everyone else is doing lie flat.. I still like the virgin ife best though (for domestic) the virgin elevate frequent flyer program kinda blows too. You can get upgraded from Econ to Econ+ but have to pay for the first upgrades.. Also it's only you that gets upgraded, not anyone else on you ittn so if I travel with my wife there's no upgrade, even picking the "express" seats at the front of the plane which they let you do for free with gold status (highest) they don't let your companions do..

I'm a solid Southwest Airlines guy. During my previous employment, 85% of my flights were monthly jaunts from Reno/Tahoe to Las Vegas and SWA has several flights a day down and back. Now I travel primarily the western-states (Colorado west) and still use Southwest. I'm not able to purchase Business Select any more with my new company, but because I fly a couple times a month, I'm able to board very early in the process. It's been years since I flew another airline and maybe I don't know what I'm missing, but these folks take good care of me during the few times I have had issues.

Great point -- SO many fares you can only get the lower point connecting through DEN, in particular. Sometimes LAX or SFO or SAN. Just ridiculous. Still a punishment for the Southwest international flights from HOU.

Danny - yeah I forgot about United's crying about SW being allowed to fly south and Hobby getting the necessary upgrades for that.

Smart - I don't think I've ever heard anyone say a bad thing about SW's customer service. I'm sure there are isolated incidences but for the most part they seem to be very good from ticketing on down to the front line employees.

Wigwam - oh yeah EWR is awful. I've been there twice and I avoid it at all costs!

Somebody earlier was bitching abt Spirit. Took the red eye back to Boston in August, it was the worst flight I'd ever taken and swore I'd never do it again. 2 hrs late. Coach seats were like sitting on a park bench. Was resting my forehead on the seat in front of me and it was black when I got off. Anyway, took it again a few days ago. Sprung for the $55 upgrade to the first class. It was worth every penny and cannot recommend it enough. Seat was big, comfortable. No drinks or snacks but I just wanted a good seat.

I was late to the SWA thing but I'm glad I made the switch. The boarding process is worth it to me for the free checked bag.

Flying out of Pensacola, FL on United I had to fly a puddle jumper to Houston, wait for my carry on to be brought up to me if they had to stow it in the luggage compartment, which happened a lot, and then scramble like hell to get to another terminal for the connection to LAS. Those days are over.

I like that with SWA I can arrive around 2:00 pm and catch my return flight around 1:00 pm. Other airlines just don't give me those kind of options. In the PITA world of commercial air travel SWA seems to be, at least for me, the least bad bad option.

Yeah flying United Express into IAH and then transferring over to the mainline side is a pain in the ass. Terminal B to terminal C/E can be tough when working on a tight connection.

The Continental merger really was a pain as we lost our hub status here in Clevelamd, however Spirit, Frontier, and Sw have kept prices down as they compete for those open routes. I don't mind SW, when they are priced like a budget airline, when I have to pay a premium for them that's when it's a pain. I've come to hate Frontier after one flight, and their god awful website. Spirit has nice times for there non stops to Vegas so I do like them, but the only way I'll fly them is with the ghetto 1st class seat.

Been years since an airline agent hung up on me but it finally happened again with a UA agent. Was questioning her about upgrades and she was telling me it wasn't possible even though it was. What made it worse is she notated the reservation that I argued with her. So, I said fuck it and cancelled my $4K Biz ticket to Europe. Good thing I was within 24 hours of booking the ticket. Screw you, United.
