Is it mathematically incorrect to have place bets out if you are planning on throwing out two come bets? Let's say I'm playing at $10 with pass line full odds. Come out roll is a 5. Is there any benefit or disadvantage if I want to place the 6 and 8 for $12, then make a come bet? If the next roll is a 6, I'll play full odds on the 6, so I'll have to toss in a quarter and get a dollar back. Does the math dictate that if I want to make a come bet, I should NOT make a place bet?

having a place bet is no different than having a come bet with full odds on that number.

so think of it as already having hit those 2 numbers on the come.

Shifter is correct, but keep in mind the odds are worse because you are taking away the ability to win on the come with 7 or 11.

Wait... Having a passline bet is no different than having a come bet?

What do you mean with your place bet reference? Do you mean that by the time the come bet and full odds are paid you'll have been paid the equivalent of the same amount if you put down a place bet?

Sorry if my question is relatively simplistic. I've just been playing craps many years and never heard anyone say that.

Would still win on the 11 because the place bets would remain.

I mean that if you make a come bet, you have a chance to win in 7 and 11 before a point is established. When you make a place bet, you lose that ability and can only win when the number of your place bet hits.

Thus the bet with better odds is a come bet with odds, not a place bet.

There is nothing mathematically incorrect about playing a place bet with a come bet. They are just two completely independent bets. In your example, your come bet and place bet aren't the same because A) you didn't win on your come bet when the 6 was rolled and B) there's no guarantee that your come bet is going to end up being one of the place bet numbers.

Are you asking if it makes sense to leave your place bet up if the come bet goes to one of those numbers?

No, I was simply wondering if there was any mathematical negativity to converting a place bet to a come bet as opposed to not having a place bet at all out and just maxing your odds on the come.

There isn't a better bet on the craps table than the PL/DP with full odds and the Come/DC with full odds.**

**Save for the odd promotion you'll see like Downtown Grand's free buy on the 4 and 10, which makes that a 0% HA....
