At least it's in a glass bottle.. For that price the bottle costs have to be a significant percentage of the total cost

I think they actually use a lighter weight bottle, but, yes, still a lot of pounds when you add it up. Then again, you sell millions and millions and millions of cases of wine, you don't have to make much per bottle to be able to own a decent plane.

Definitely bookmarking this thread because I don't have a palette that can tell the difference between expensive and cheap wines.

I can detect if a beer is 2% old or spoiled but wine escapes me somehow.

I will settle for yummy inexpensive wines until I get spoiled :)

The reason I started this thread was to learn from the others, particularly from the experts here, and also hopefully help others.
Among all the friends & co-workers I meet/know in the US, none of them can tell or even care about the difference between good and bad wines.

Good to know. I heard that many (most?) cheap wines use the oak chip "cheat", is that the case?
BTW, never heard "two buck chuck" before, what is it? a bottle for $2?

I have a friend who works at one of the wineries owned by Diageo and get to take advantage of their Friends and Family sales when they pop up and ususally find a few things to like in the $30-50 a case range. Rosenblum, Snapdragon, Stark Raving, Navarro Correas, and other sangria only worthy bottles. It's hard to go too wrong at those prices. The problem is I am stuck with all of it as I can't justify spending the $70 it costs to ship to my fiancee.

It is the "house"wine sold at Trader Joe's stores. Originally was 2 bucks a bottle. Charles Shaw is the label name, but nicknamed 2 buck Chuck

Actually not a wine, but a mead...but our favorite so far, from one of the many wineries in our neck of the Virginia woods....
