My wife and I are set to embark on our journey to Vegas tomorrow evening (8/12). We will landing in Vegas about 9:00 Local Time. This will be my tenth trip to Vegas and I believe my wife’s sixth.

This report will be a semi-live report. It may or may not have a lot of pictures. The end will have as detailed an account as I can remember. This is not my first trip report. I used to complete them on 2+2…

Originally a few months back when I booked the flights and rooms I was going with a few friends, when they all backed out and I decided I would still attend the trip, solo. Months go by and I thought what the hell, why not invite my wife for the weekend? I will still get two days solo and she can join me for the weekend. That slowly turned into her joining me on the flight out on Wednesday. Which I am absolutely happy about. I love spending time with my wife and she is the furthest thing from a nag so having her around is always enjoyable. She is pretty damn sexy too… We have three kids under five so anytime we get is incredible. Thanks, Nana… My mom will be with our kids and two dogs.

We will be staying at the Mirage. The initial plan was to stay at SLS comped for two nights, but I got a very cheap rate for the Mirage for those two nights that I deemed were worth it so all four nights will be at the Mirage. I plan to improve from my Pearl MLife Status a great deal with as many hours as I will be putting into the gambling. I achieved Diamond Status in the past over at CET, but decided to give MLife a try going forward.

On the flight out we plan to watch Vegas Vacation, since we will be at the Mirage.


I have been in contact with a Host from the Mirage, WH. Plan to meet up with him Thursday morning to discuss my game plan and for him to give me a general idea what to expect for the backend comps since I do not have any real street cred at the Mirage.

The biggest thing this trip is to play it by ear and go with the flow, for the most part. We have never had a trip where we over planned it has always worked out, as many of you know.

Phoenix Airport is nice. The staff at Humble Pie is great. Quick, efficient and personable. A waitress just broke a glass on the floor and acted very professional about it, her first thought was to check on all of the patrons. I liked that a lot.

We made an attempt to jump onto the next flight to Vegas which flew out 2 hours earlier than ours. Since we booked with Rapid Rewards Points it was going to cost 20,000 points... Um, no thanks? My total for my flight from OKC to LAS was 24,000. Now we are just relaxing in the comfy chair of the Humble Pie, which we requested at the host. My view includes watching planes take off and watching Southwest load snacks on the plane.

Good news, we will get to fly into Vegas at night time. Vegas night flights are the best...

We are both exhausted. Long day of work and well, my wife stays at home with three kids. She works harder than any of us (our middle child doesn't understand no, just won't budge no matter what we try), for free...

Decided to go check out The Strip while the temperature was decent at best. Roughly 90 degrees at 6 AM..

First thing downstairs went to Starbucks to get my fuel for the day. Three hours of sleep is not enough, but once your eyes open in Vegas… GOOD LUCK.

As previously mentioned I asked my wife to come down with me at 5AM… Got laughed at. Surprisingly she remembered it. We are both up and going to head down to get her, her first coffee.


While she slept I proceeded to hit the strip and take some pictures.

At the Linq, I witnessed a guy and his girlfriend/wife fighting at 6 AM she said, where have you been all night?" He's like, "it was nothing, it was nothing, it was nothing, I'm here now, I'm here now.” She said, “F*** You!” Odds are it wasn’t nothing…

I have been coming to Vegas for the last four years, I must say it’s incredible what they’ve done with Imperial Palace/The Quad/The Linq. Truly incredible. Went from a shithole you didn’t want to enter to somewhere you actually want to be.

Left my wife at the pool about 1:00. I got that itch to GAMBOL, and as you all know, when you get that itch... YOU scratch the hell out of it.

In that hour and a half time frame I played Craps, High Limit Slots, back to Craps, Roulette and back to HL Slots.

Before you think I won an incredible amount of money, allow me to clear that up, quickly. I won $85. That does, make me positive for the trip and I needed the final HL slot to make that happen.

I know the dry spell will come, but the last 7 machines I have played HL slots on I am up a combined $1400 without ever having to put in more than $200. I realize that luck chart is insane, but I will take it.

Craps was crap overall. Lost a $300 buy in right off the bat and the second time around I lost $170. The HL Slots are what kept me in the mix.

Roulette is a game I have never really played other than Red or Black. I focused on 5 and 8 and cashed about the same amount as I showed up with.

Final Trip Thoughts

Go big or go home... Well, I'm no KP so home I went.


I did not lose more than I was willing to lose, but the loss hurts knowing I had several big wins and the really big win. If I could go back, I would put some money away and have slowed down after being down the first couple of nights.


Built into the loss is all of our expenses and some shopping money for my wife.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Mirage. Dealers were great and the location was great. Pit Bosses were great. High Limit Room was awesome. Stiff drinks. Nice competent conversational dealers. Good for the Mirage… I got roped back in after building the $1500 up to $2500. I colored up $2500, two bananas and one purp. We sat there and talked to the dealer who was a sweetheart…decided screw it let’s play $500… After about 45 minutes I changed out all the chips and that was that.

While playing at The Mirage Sports Bar, I clicked on the Blackjack game. I had about $85 left from when I was playing VP. I was like let’s see what $3 does. Well, I clicked it to $4 and figured I would just keep hitting it and it would reset… Nope, I had to put in the entire $85 to bet. No way to back it out. Called for an attendant and this is their solution…”You are gonna bet it, if you win, congrats. If you lose, I am gonna pay you back your $85.” That is the best kind of free roll.

Hard to dial back when you get one trip per year. Desire to go hard the entire time is there for sure.

Got my stats back for the entire trip from WH. These are just The Mirage. Had losses at other places, too.
