Did this change the Bronco's Super Bowl odds for next season?

Can't wait to see what they're at.

And Elway sounded a little whiny with his "we want players who want to be here" statement. Wonder who they land now? Fitzpatrick? Kaepernick?

Mark Sanchez should be available soon.

Or better yet - please trade for Sam Bradford!!

LOL! If that defense plays as well next year as they did this year, and they got Bradford, he will get a SB ring!

Word is they're going after Kap. I think that would be a mistake.

Right. They don't need a ton of talent at qb, just a solid game manager. They were smart not to overpay Osweiler.

I don't think they can repeat. But it would be Philadelphia luck to trade the injured all the time dude and watch him win a SB.

Eagles made some nice moves today. If there are any Dolphins fans here...god bless you for taking Kiko and Maxwell off the Eagles hands.

Sometimes the off season moves are more exciting than some of the games I watched this past season.

They should work a deal for Eli. Not like the Giants are doing anything next year with that D.

    Manning-swap.

    Okay... here's a mini-rant.

John Elway, never was that great. Well, good maybe... Tom Brady or Peyton Manning great... not even close. In fact, compared to modern day QBs, John Elway might not even be a back-up in the league for most of his career. His last few seasons were definitely his best and that was a 16 year career.

For some reason, QBs achieve this legendary status that endures long after they retire and everyone tends to laud their greatest performances and talk about how great they were forgetting about how mediocre they were most of the time. His stats show he was just back-up good for most of his career and in his last few seasons he was decent starter quality.

Heck, if you look at his two super bowl winning seasons his QB rating during the playoffs was 83.9 and 85.9, respectively. Awful by today's standards. His completion percentage in the playoffs was 58.3 and 52.3, respectively. Not very good either. Terrell Davis was the MVP of those teams and the real reason they won those Super Bowls, IMO. But, for some reason Elway gets all of the credit. Mind you, Davis was MVP of the first Super Bowl and won league MVP and Offensive Player of the Year for their second Super Bowl win. John Elway completed 52% of his passes in the final Super Bowl to win the Super Bowl MVP. That's somewhat laughable when you think about how he was handing the ball most of the game to the offensive player of the year and league MVP. Whatever.

But, let's fast forward. Now he's Broncos legend. Somehow he talks the owner into letting him take over the reigns as general manager. All he did was go out and get Peyton Manning as his QB. Presto... the Broncos are legitimate contenders again.

Here's how good Manning is: The Broncos hadn't had a winning season since 2006 before Manning arrived in 2012 (actually 2011 was a winning season under John Fox, but only because of Tim Tebow... I discount that season since I'm a huge Tebow fan). They went 50-14 over the last four years averaging just 3.5 losses per year. Mostly under John Fox. Now they have perennial loser Gary Kubiak as coach... who before Denver had only three winning seasons out of 8 in Houston, he'd only been to the playoffs twice (after Manning was no longer playing in Indy), and he'd only won two playoff games. My point is, Manning elevated everyone around him

So, is Elway a genius and brilliant general manager? I would argue no. Great acquisition of perhaps the single greatest player of a generation and then building a pretty good defense around him. But, let's not kid ourselves about that acquisition either: Manning chose the Broncos and pretty much could have played anywhere he wanted. Unfortunately, there isn't another Manning available to put Elway back on the map and he just let a very viable QB leave for Houston.

Couple that with the fact that, they'll have an exodus of talent in free agency that they'll need to replace, and poof... back to 8-8 or worse for many years to come.

Being in Houston ... you should hear people talking down here about the Texans being a Super Bowl contender now. It's kind of hilarious. If Osweiler had checked out on the team and was bitter about having been benched for Peyton Manning ... well, get over it!
