    Other terms that would work?
    • "Waive"
    • "Forfeit"
    • "Nolo contendere" ("No contest")
    • "Cut me, Mick"
    • "Leave the gun, take the cannoli."

I definitely do it when appropriate, but one problem I've found is that the vast majority of players don't know it's an option, so when they see you do it once, they go overboard and start surrendering on every damn hand. 16 against an ace? Absolutely. 12 against an ace? Slow down, champ.

I never surrender. I believe in magic. :) I think it helps to project winning for the variance to be in your side.

Here, here! If I were high Rolling, though, it's a different story.

It is funny how once someone does it, everyone wants to do it.

Barona in San Diego was famous for a while for having the best blackjack in North America (it was likely the among best blackjack in the world - single deck, 3:2, DAS, DOA, H17, late surrender, with a table limit of $100-$10k...game is gone now). One time I walked up, and as a courtesy asked the player already there if he minded if I jumped in. He said "as long as you don't do dumb things like surrender". I said "I only surrender when I'm supposed to". The guy looked at me like I was the devil. Of course the very first hand was a surrender for me. He audibly showed his frustration, then made a big show of immediately coloring up and telling the dealer he'd come back when I was gone.

I then proceeded to turn $5k into $65k while at the table by myself. The other guy moved to a table where he could see, and I could see him wincing every time the dealer called "blue out!" ($5k chips there were blue). It made the win that much sweeter lol. But apparently not everybody likes surrender or the people that do it :)

How long did you play once the guy left the table?

I have surrendered at tables but I am inconsistent when doing it. So my play may drive everyone crazy.

Didn't take long....I press up my bets pretty fast when I'm winning and was at the $10K max within a few minutes. Maybe 20-30 minutes or so in total. I had it up to $110K and left with $65K after losing $30K on a nasty split/double and a couple of other hands. But I left with this so I was happy...
