I was going to reply to Newmans post on her TR as we were both reminiscing (whining) about not having hit a decent Fire Bet in a very long time.

I know we like to talk about big wins and such but when Fire Bets are discussed I immediately think of this:

3 years ago at Bally's mid afternoon. It has been a bad trip and I was going to kick the tires one more time. I always take a Firebet $4 for m $1 for the crew. Absolutely automatic. I'm deciding between two tables. One has one or two guys at it and no chips in their racks. The other, lively but the game looked choppy. So....I buy in at the lively game feeling it will be luckier. Well of course I drop most of my buy in. The other table I was looking at is as quiet as a funeral.

Having dumped my money I walk by the other game but it is still empty and quiet. However the game was at a standstill. I talked to the stick man. Sure enough, some little old lady walked up, picked up the dice, and literally hit all six numbers in about 12 rolls triggering the 6 hit Firebet for 1000-1. ONE GUY had a $1 Firebet!

All I could think about was the $4000 tax free dollars I had missed out on. I didn't gamble anymore that trip.

I also had one where I moved from Three Card Poker to Mississippi Stud and the very hand I left my friend hit my straight flush. The dealer even poked fun at me and held up his winning hand as I was only one table over. While that sucked...it was still not quite like missing out a $4000 payout on a $4 bet :(

Surely some of you must have some similar stories.

a few trips ago I pulled up to a dice table and threw $100 on the come out.

    new shooter on stick left.

I always play the all/tall/small for $100 each.

but I forgot because nobody else was playing it and the shooter already had the dice in his hands when I rolled up, so there wasn't much time.

he proceeds to roll every single number one after one without rolling a single number twice.

    cost me $24k. :vomit:

and to add insult to injury, I was playing my usual strategy of $100 come bets, full odds.

so he spreads out every single number with a come bet and then proceeds to 7 out.

    cost me another $4k.

I was at Aria last month with a couple friends. I don't play roulette often, but we walked by one table that had a bunch of 17s on the board. We stopped to watch it for a few minutes, when I suddenly felt an urgency to bet on 17. I quickly whipped out $500 and asked for all quarters. As soon as the damn dealer slid me my chips, she yells out, no more bets! What?! Guess where the ball lands? 17! I was about to bet the full $500 on the 17, all the numbers surrounding the 17, the 2nd 13, the row, the column...I was basically going to have the 17 covered! I could not believe it! I ended up standing there, doing nothing but wait for the next feeling to come...lol. After about 10 more spins and me not making a single bet, I decided to go with the 17 again. I bet 50 straight up, made a barrier wall around the 17, bet the middle 12, the row, the column. The ball ends up landing in the first 12...poof!

A few trips back, about a week before we left, I was talking with my wife and I had a premonition. I told her that when we go to Vegas, I should put a big bet down on 23 Red first thing when we get there. That is how I play roulette, get a hunch then go make one bet. I have hit this for $25-$50 many times, and for $100 once. Joking around I said we are staying at MGM, they allow $500.

We get there, and I walk up to the table but the ball is spinning already and I dont have chips. I had $300 out in my hand to buy chips for the next spin and last minute I chickened out. Like a dummy I stood there and watched the next spin. I wanted to vomit. I missed out on a nice $10500 payout.

Wow! These stories are making me more sad than when I missed out on my $4000 Firebet!

A machine I've been playing the hell out of in Cosmo HL hit 200k right after I left. It's going to hit again in June for me dammit!

I felt a $5 wof at cet was about to hit. 1.2 million progressive. Been watching and playing the same machine for years. So first night in I played it. Couple of hours later it hit the jackpot. Felt numb.

My trip in April I missed a few, all in the same day...

Started playing at Cromwell on a fire bet table instead of an AT/AS. Guy rolls the AT/AS, no firebet.

Then was screwing around on a bubble craps machine, and 4 hard eights hit in about 6 rolls. I usually have all the hard ways for $5 and will parlay the first one, but I wasn't playing the hardways on the BC machine. My typical progression is $5/$50/$100/$250/$500, so those 4 hard eights means I missed out on at least $5600 or so (I think I would have capped out on the BC).

An hour or so later at Margaritaville, another 4 hard eights in a row, but the table was ice cold prior and I wasn't playing the hard ways.

Luckily, the same guy, same roll threw 3 hard sixes in a row after I had missed the 8s, so I managed to at least clear $1150 out of that, but man, it could have been a $20k+ morning.

My missed firebet was at a local. I just finished rolling a four pointer. I made some money, played my firebet and went outside for a cigarette. I came back and it was a new shoter...I missed the firebet with the new shooter. She rolled and she rolled and she rolled. I am a very polite craps player and I refuse to bet during a roll. The lady kept rolling for over an hour. I never played one bet. Cost more than the $5k firebet....probably closer to $15k. Candies and nuts.

The biggest blunder was Proline (Canadian sports lottery) during the NHL expansion days. A $2 dollar (whatever)...that would have paid $250k. I was 2 1/2 minutes from glory....
I believe it was CC (that scored the OT winner) against the Flames that ruined my fate. I picked 5 of 6 longshots. The last one of the night. was a tie between Chicago and Calgary...it was in OT. Just not my night.
    Haven't played Proline/sports gambling since....

When I saw the "Big Misses" title to this thread I initially thought it was about The Palomino Club. ;)
