It might be worth it this time around, since the $1MM Big One tourney has adopted a new invite-only format specifically designed to exclude professional players. I think this confers a massive advantage to a rec player with pro-level skills that already has a bankroll which affords them the luxury of not actually being a pro poker player. 1st place would be in the $15MM+ range so to me it would certainly seem worth nitting my way through the first levels of the shove fest, then harvesting the less-skilled, chip-heavy remaining field.

sometimes that can be done, but with these formats it's not like a normal tourney. it's so ridiculously skewed to encourage rebuys/addons.

you start with 10k chips and then you can immediately do a rebuy+addon, which gives you 10k+10k and then they throw in another 10k on top.

so everybody starts with 40k chips and you have 10k.

then the blinds move up every 15 minutes so within no time you are forced to shove.

it really takes the skill out of it and turns it into a complete luckfest.

If first prize was an entry into the next Big One, do they include the travel to Monaco as well? Of course if you invited to this tourney then travel expenses aren't an issue.

I like that Guy has made this change for the tourney, to allow the very wealthy who like to play poker their own tourney. Keep the pros out, or make them buy 100% of themselves, not allow them to sell percentages. Why should a rec player have to play alone against essentially a corporation. Even if they aren't all together, why should he have to play against someone who has less than 10% of himself in the tourney.
