I know a few severs in CA and NV. They make $2 something an hour. The IRS taxes them based on sales they ring in, so cash vs credit card doesn't matter really.

I bet the high end servers, think Craftsteak or Sinatra, etc. easily make six figures, but they also aren't brand new or coming from a Denny's.

But back to the 4.7% charge, that might save you money. If they just added it to the price of a beer or food item, i.e. $8.00 now is $8.40, you would pay sales tax on the amount of the beer. Since it's added at the end, I believe they don't have to include sales tax in that. So it will be a few cents cheaper. Look at that they are helping you.

 

If this is true, their employers are violating state laws. I believe California and Nevada are two of the states that require the minimum before tips.

Ok, just so that we can have our facts correct, I will check and report back. One of my friends is dating a cocktail server at WD, and she stated verbatim that her wage was only a "few" dollars an hour, which I took to mean @ $3. I will ask exactly what she makes and report back just so we all have correct info!!

Yep. Personally, I'd rather hear it from the manager that pays the employees what they pay them. That would be more definitive to me.

I think if I got hired as a waiter... knowing I'm really just working for tips... I probably wouldn't care or even know exactly what I was being paid hourly. And, I'd probably just assume it's the federal minimum we're all conditioned to know.

But, I'd love to know for future reference as well.

 

So, this is really just a food/bev resort fee.
