On June 14 the first of two scheduled implosions will make way for the $1.4 billion expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Although it didn’t always turn a profit during, and these days may be best known as the setting for The Tangiers gambling joint depicted in Martin Scorsese’s Vegas mobster epic Casino, the Riviera was always entertaining.

Also the very first place I ever stayed in Vegas. We were on a road trip from Canada-LA (yes it was a long drive) and a billboard stated "Guaranteed Room Available at Circus Circus" So being the young, cheap lads we were we went there. Turns out the fine print stated if they are full they would get you a room at CC rate. So they sent us to The Riv. Much better place to stay even back then as things turned out. I played BJ at the Westward Ho that night and won $100 and thought I was the coolest cat in town.
